Save game migration to new computer?

I got a new computer. Shigatari... well it doesn't run any different on the new one, thank you for making your game accessible even to 7 year old computers. Anyway, I'd like to migrate the save game progress if I can. I gotta have those sweet, sweet ancestor points. It doesn't appear to be syncing to the steam cloud for saves (that's alright, it's not necessary by any means) so I gotta do this manually. Thought I'd just ask directly.

What files do I specifically need to move to keep my old save data? Because I've got... I dunno, 5000ish ancestor points I'd like to keep, and some great haiku. Stuff like

Sided with merchant
Apparently that is bad
Time to eat a knife!

Backing up and restoring your saves will vary depending on your OS. For Windows, saves are stored in either [steam directory]\steamapps\common\Shigatari\game\saves or c:\users\[user]\appdata\roaming\Renpy\shigatari.

If you're on linux or mac, let me know and I'll look in to it. I'm not sure offhand.

I'll add cloud saves to the list.

Also congrats on managing to make this in RenPy of all things. I saw the icon once on my old computer before it changed to the Shigatari icon. This game is dang good, as you probably know by now. Anyway it's Windows 7 to Windows 10, I'll figure it out now that I have the paths. Thanks!

Is it the Auto-1-LT1.save file, the persistent file, or both? I tried migrating it and it just overwrote them I think.

Persistent has your ancestor favor, achievements, poems, etc. Auto-1-LT1.save has your current samurai. Overwriting them on your new computer is the correct thing to do. Did it work for you?

It didn't work. Dunno why. I moved just the persistant in there, no dice. When I go to start a new game, I don't have my ancestor points, and I don't have my unlocked classes. Persistent and autosaves, no dice. Don't know where to go from here.

Did you copy both the [steam directory]\steamapps\common\Shigatari\game\saves and c:\users\[user]\appdata\roaming\Renpy\shigatari to their respective locations on the new computer?

Sorry this is causing you grief. I'll definitely look in to cloud saves this weekend.

Moving both those files did the trick! Didn't realize it would be both. Maybe the Users version took precedence. So happy to be playing this again! :D
