Skype Improves FPS?

Something really weird happened to me last night while I was playing Meadow, and some friends suggested I'd make a thread regarding it.

I am one of those people who have been suffering from framerate issues on populated servers. The framerate would drop somewhere between 5-10 fps if I weren't on an empty grove, rendering the game unplayable. And then.. the weirdest thing happened. My friend called me on Skype, of all things, and upon answering the call, the FPS of Meadow boosted to 60 FPS?

When the call ended, the game returned to its laggy state. So, to test this weird occurance, today I utilized Skype's sound echo test service thing. I called it and opened Meadow, and just as I suspected, the framerate boosted, but upon the call ending, the game would return to its laggy state.

I want to know if this is happening to other people, or if it's just some weird anomaly occuring with me.

I'm going to try this out myself, wonder what's going on behind the scenes if this does work, it's so strange.

Calling Echo didn't seem to do anything, I'll try a regular Skype call one of these days.

thanks for the input guys. I'm sorry that it didn't help for you, but maybe it may do something for someone else. I'm not so sure but either way this is extremely odd.

Today I rigged myself a second skype account just for the sole purpose of playing meadow. It's ridiculous. I call myself and then, suddenly, I'm able to play without lag.

I wonder what could be causing it. For reference, I'm going to post my system specs.

That is the weirdest thing I have read on Meadow forums for sure, but it's beautiful! Gonna call my sister after work and chat wirh her while playin' and see if this will improve my experience. Also, I don't have that much ofa problem, solid 60 fps would be nice ^^

This must be the strangest thing ever. I will investigate and if other people could try this that would be great as well. Oh, and please report back here.

The Dreamwalker, how do you measure FPS? Could it be that it is the Skype window that has 60 FPS?

I was using Steam's in-game overlay to measure my FPS. I just tested it again for good measure.

I got a solid 60 FPS with skype's echo sound device activated, and without it, the FPS dropped below 15. This is really, really bizarre. It's slightly disappointing to hear that this isn't working for everyone else so far..

Even if it isn't happening with everyone else, I wonder why it's working with me.

For reference. I also tried Discord's calling feature. That doesn't improve the FPS on my end. Skype is the only thing that works for me? Weird. Weird, weird, weird.

Maybe you've got some magic Skype account then? If so, I want that too

Well, calling to Echo and speaking with them does not affect the performance. Will call to my sister once she's back home.

Don't know about the Skype, but what really helped me is turning player shadow off. Also, you can try disable reflection as well.
