imo the main pull of eagle is exploration and relaxation purposes. it's not for everyone
It is in a way boring but I personally like playing it. It's meant to be a leader or guide or whatever you wanna call it to help other animals find stuff.
If you are chasing down the leader board or points for achievements then playing the eagle is not a good plan. The rabbit is fun to play, fast and hyper.
theres no reason to "guide" other people as the eagle. you get nothign out of it, you have no way of communicating and the deer and fox are way better at the job.
What you may find boring, other person define as exciting. Many people have enjoyed flying around Meadow for a different reasons. It is not perfect, but nothing really is. Let's respect opinion of fellow players. It's fine to disagree, to each their own.
On the topic, aint' it boring to chase the leaderboards and collect the essense? Tedious and repetetive task perhaps, yet many seem to be in love with grind :)
At the moment there is a glitch which allows you to use emotes ( stone, questionmark etc) as an eagle so if you want to play with emotes you should do it now :) Had an eagle this morning who used it too and it was sooo easy to get obeliscs, it's really not fair to groups without an eagle who want to reach the leaderboards.
There's no need to be rude because they enjoy something you don't, it's better if we keep discussions here calm and respectful, otherwise they end up in arguments that go no where.
If I want to do things with emotes or collect essence/hunt obelisks I use one the many animals that can do that. I really enjoy the playing the eagle at hours when there's less people on, it's very relaxing and calming to fly about and get a nice view of the landscape, I have a bad visual memory when it comes to things like maps and direction, so I really appreciate having the ability to fly up and look around to remind myself where everything is and explore. It can also be really fun to find small groups and lead them to stuff they can collect, their happy smiles are always so satisfying :).
I wouldn't complain if they added stuff for the eagle, I'm sure whatever they'd come up with would be very cool, but I also enjoy it for what it is now. Sorry you don't feel the same, but there is a chance they will be adding more flying animals in the future (there's 2 on the cover of the soundtrack) so you may still get flying animals that have what you're looking for! :)
They are recomended because they are bigger and easier to see but like any other ground animal they blindly run around to find things.
When it comes to speed in finding stuff the eagle beats it all and is big enough to follow by using sense if in the sky.
And now the eagle can indicate animals of finds... at least I can. (Don't know if it's a bug or not) If you have played enough you've learned when seing an eagle it's good to follow it.
Unfortunately though, without any idea of the developers intent I don't think the eagle will ever be able to land. All the animals in this game you can find in previous games and they all have walk animations and whatnot. But you never find the eagle walking in neither shelter or shelter 2, it's always flying.
To sum it up a bit better, all the animals you see in this game have models and animations already seen in previous games and that's what meadow is built off of i think.
That said they are gonna add more birds like the swan and pheasant and they all have walking animations anyway.
As for leading groups, they're actually very good at it ^^ (when people actually follow them). While Goats and Lynxes are still limited to what they can see from ground level, Eagles can see everything in a big radius around them, so they can see obelisks that are hidden behind hills the ground pack can't see past, they can see crystals up in mountains that the ground pack is going to run past without finding.
As for no reward for helping...there doesen't need to be one, I think ^^ I don't care about essence, I just enjoy flying around helping people, so being able to find things for a pack that's following me is fun for me, even if i get nothing out of it
but i do hope in the future the eagle gets a bit more to it, even if it's just the basic command emotes
But rendering the eagle capable or collecting thing would be far too easy and unfair to the other players, you could just fly from one collectible to the other, no challenge, no spending half an hour trying to find your way up a particularly stiff sloap (especially if you're as unreasonably clumbsy as I am...), you wouldn't take the time to discover all the nooks and crannies you stumble upon completely by accident.
I think it would defeat the purpose of the game a little bit... Finding flowers and puzzle pieces and obelisks is awesome and everything, but so is walking around and simply enjoying the scenary, especially as an eagle, you're just floating in the air, enjoying the peace and relaxation....
I get that it's not the type of thing you may be looking for, but if such is the case, you have plenty of other games who can provide the type of exitment and sens of achievment you appear to be looking for :)
giving it an ability to pick up flowers along with shards etc should count to other animals that are missing the skins/etc..
some people may think its relaxing but they would still think its useless comming from a dlc/game pack to be less rewarding then most..
