Why is there the ability to name your animals?
I love that I have the ability to name my animals, but I don't understand the purpose unless it's a fun little feature. I thought the naming would play a part in the game, that would be the name players could see & refer to you as while playing, but nope, players can view steam names through the game. So I'm curious with the animal naming, if it does play a part when why is it present?

At the moment, it's just a fun little feature particularly useful to roleplayers to define their characters. You're the only one who's able to see your animals' names, so there's not much "usefulness", so to speak. Nonetheless, I think it's a cute little detail ^^

Cool! I guess I haven't been in in-game rps yet, but I haven't been able to view the animals' names at all, it's always the players. Or at least I think so, cause how else would people from Meadow start friend requesting me if it didn't reveal my steam name right? And I agree it's a cool detail :D I want Slime Rancher to develop that detail if it is possible cause it'd be so cute to name the slimes, but currently there's no naming option in that game. So I'll have to wait and hope so much for it to get added :D

Hi there!

Names are ussually used in game when you find a nice player, and want to know what there steam is! At least that's what i found.

During normal games, (not the roleplaying grove) I see connections to there steam User name as i often get asked to be friends out of game. Its also a way to understand which furry friend is which! Sometimes character are the same animal with same skin, so you can easily press Tab and continue your adventure with the right user!

In the Roleplay grove, things change. They become used as names, or personalitys. I like having fun with the 'mama lynx' name and have little cubs swarm me!

I hope this really helps, if not, Any questions? :steamhappy:

Little Lynx, I believe OP is referring to the custom names you can give each animal in the Den menu, but that was a very adorable and well thought-out explanation regardless ^__^

I guess it's a bit like naming the lynx cubs in Shelter 2 - an immersion element, and probably also to do with the fact that people seem to care more about things if they give them names, I think?

Why not? :shelterfrog:

Thanks Quazzar! Don't take my comment as true information though, its always best to see what the moderators and creators at Might & Delight say! :D
They should be visible so everyone can witness the beauty of my pun names. Mackleroar the lynx is waiting to serenade you with third voice rendition of Thrift Store.

I know :3 I want a feature to be added that the names of the animals would appear under the player's steam name! I think that'd be so cool, so it'll still give out names & everyone can see what names others named their animals. I had commented this idea on the Meadow's idea/suggestion post, though I don't know if it'll get noticed.

MavisRead, I like that idea very much! :D

I tend to play differently depending on what animal I am, because I pick my animal based on my mood usually, so it's like they have their own personalities even when I'm not in an RP grove. I think seeing the names of other's animals would be very cool, if that's something other people do as well. ^__^

Thanks for the idea support :D Hopefully it'll get noticed at some point when I mentioned it on the suggestions post for the game :3 I barely been in the RP grove myself, only visited once, yet it was late & my friends who wanted to play with me searched for more friends to rp, as the other grew tired and left, lol. So we didn't get to rp that day, but still it was so peaceful. I think if you enjoy some silence for a while you should visit that server. It's peaceful, without animals constantly making noises lol. I don't know how I choose my animal for a session, lol it's probably based on whatever I plan to do, like hunting for essence. But I agree it's like all the animals have their different personalities, since they all have different abilites. Or at least that's how I see they are different personality wise. You know, like the frog being the fastest swimer while the rest of the animals are slow swimers since they aren't meant to swim. Aw, this is making me wanna play more Meadow :D

Yeah, and you can see that the emotes have different personalities :) The frog is like a plucky comic relief sidekick, always making faces and everything. The lynx cub is a Cute Kitten, period. The goat is overly self-confident and smug. The badger cub is a shy little child, of course. The pheasant is a gossipy old hen. And so on. Love that :)

I don't expect to see animal names.. It would become a bypass chat substitute, as well as abused otherwise.

Could be wrong though. I think the majority of players wouldn't mess with it, and it would be kewl to see the creativity people use choosing their animals names.

Oh... yeah that's a good point reflex, I could see people ending up using it as like a "status message" type of thing.. Blah. :/

Yeah :3 It's awesome to have the ability to change to any of them :D
