[POLL & Discussion][Suggestion] An interesting animal: the Maned Wolf (Aguará Guazú).
Deer? Fox? Wolf? Nope!

General information about the Maned Wolf
The Maned Wolf is a creature (animal) that lives in some regions of my country (Argentina, in South America). It is rather strange, and it is tallest Canid in the world. They have very long legs and they weight on average 23kg and is about 125cm from it's feet to the head, they stand 90cm at the shoulder. They evolved pretty much like us, when we started to walk on two legs for better vision, they instead just evolved into getting reeeaaaally long legs instead. They're almost mostly herbivores, as their diet is about 70-75% of vegetation. They used to be ancestors many years ago with the Falklands Wolf. The only animals they hunt are very small, such as bunnies or rodents and birds.

Why it is something I'd like to see in the game
-For one, I think it's sorta cool that it's an animal from the regions and part of the world I live in. It is a very special and beautiful creature.
-For two, I think it's a rather unique and interesting animal, that would be a one-time thing in animal-related games, something that has never been seen before, and that would be very exclusive to Meadow if they were the first to implement it. It'd be something for sure completely different!
-Also that I've finally decided to make this thread! :P

P.S: - "Why is this not under the General suggestions thread?" The answer to this, is due to my post being rather long. I thought that it would fit much better being on it's own as it's main root rather than being a really long branch of a different tree. It contains a whole lot of information that I believe wouldn't get understood/noticed as much as it would on it's own, plus I didn't want to flood the general suggestions thread with things only about the Maned Wolf, cause otherwise there'd be no space for the rest of the many interesting suggestions in there!

This is not official and has NO guarantee of ever being added into the game and no higher chance of being added in relation to other suggestions either. This suggestion is independant and separate from the fact that I am a moderator for the Community Hub of Meadow. Take it as a normal suggestion like any other.

woah, I had no idea this thing existed!

would be pretty cool to see ingame, though I'm not exactly sure if they're adding animals that didn't appear in the Shelter series

Hey there!

I never heard nor seen that they restricted/limited themselves to animals that had already appeared on previous M&D titles, so that's why I went on with suggesting this. Plus, even if it was like that, who knows, maybe they might like the idea :P Hopefully! I think it'd be something different for sure.
I had no idea this thing existed for the longest time either, only found out about a year ago :P

Kindest regards,
Rhaonoa.

These guys are so cool, I'd love to play as one in Meadow. They look familiar, in that they share many similarities with foxes/wolves, and yet they also look so unusual. Also, I imagine they would really suit the sort of whimsical artistic style of M&D's games, what with their really long legs and large ears :steamhappy:

I like the idea but it's somewhat similar to the fox. It's kinda like being a fox on stilts. (I know it's not a fox or a wolf just saying it looks like one lol) Plus what if people are so hooked on this animal they forget the original animals. On the other hand it's a cool idea cause it might solve the issue with people wanting the wolf and personally a think it's a cool animal. Also, they could make obelisks with the old animals on them so people would be forced to be them. :meadowrabbit: So technically, it would work.

I don't think they'd add the maned wolf in my opinion... I don't know if this has already been pointed out, but I strongly feel like the M&D team will stick to only European animals; european lynxes, red foxes, grey wolves, red deer, wild rabbits, wild goats and pheasants and swans and frogs and badgers and you name it. These are all animals that appear on the European continent, and as far as I can tell, maned wolves only appear on the African continent :( We're sooner to see a golden jackal than that...

Though with that said, it's a cool ass animal regardless, and if, by some odd chance, M&D would make different versions of Meadow taking place on different continents with their respective fauna, I would kill to be a maned wolf.

If they add the maned wolf, they should also add the pup!
They're just so darn cute:StarwhalBlue:

Tbh whenever the wolf comes out and gets a skin contest, I was planning on making a maned wolf-based skin just like I did with my raccoon fox. ^^ I quite like the idea of alternate-species skins and I thought it'd look nice. However it'd also be really neat to have a maned wolf as it's own unique thing-- we'll just have to wait and see. Though I do love meadow's aesthetics and appreciate how it seems to be locked to one region, I wonder if the devs would ever consider branching out one day and making different maps entirely based on other areas sometime in the future once plenty is added to the existing one and all of the Shelter animals are in.

I love this idea!
while maned wolves would be very cool, it appears the shelterverse takes place in either sweden (where M&D is located, it has all the animals meadow does +the predators from the mountains dlc and more) or even siberia, since in the shelter 2 games wooly mammoth spirits & bodies are present and i cant find any information about wooly mammoths ever living in/around sweden, and i highly doubt it takes place in any of the americas since canadian lynxes have very long cheek fur while the lynxes in this game dont. maned wolves live in south america and would be very out of place in meadow.

i love this idea, but it just wouldn't fit in with the shelterverse!! ;;

I don't generally think a manned wolf would be a good idea for meadow since it would end up as a cases of misplaced wildlife. Manned wolves are canids native to South American grasslands and open woodland, as far as I know meadow as well as the rest of the shelter franchise takes place in Siberia the badger and lynx appear to be both the Eurasian badger and Eurasian Lynx plus their are many other species native to Siberia in the series which includes Woolly Mammoths which were featured both in Paws in the form of spirits and in shelter 2 where one is featured as a frozen carcass. The only misplaced wildlife meadow has so far is a bald eagle which is only native to North America and personally I think they should have used a golden eagle since those are native to Siberia as opposed to a bald eagle.

Plus manned wolves are not particularly adapted to seasonal extremes especially the freezing winters in Siberia where temperatures easily drop down to over -40 degrees Fahrenheit, so by sticking it into a Siberian environment this type of candid would be far out of place. More or less I'd rather see animals native to Siberia be placed into the game instead of just tossing in random animals and causing misplaced wildlife and putting them in habitats that they clearly don't belong in. A few examples of animals that can be introduced into the game could include the following:

-Siberian Tiger

-Snow leopard (their have been instances of populations in southern Siberia and contrary to popular belief they are not exclusive to the Himalayas).

-Woolly Mammoth (I've been wanting a mammoth in this game since release they have already been featured in other shelter games so why can't they be playable in this one? I'd love to see both an adult mammoth and a mammoth calf playable)

-Siberian Salamander (can survive being frozen in solid ice for years plus it would give the frog another amphibian friend in game)

-Wolverine

-Caribou (aka reindeer)

-Common Raven

-Eurasian Eagle Owl

-Blakiston's fishing Owl (the largest owl species in the world)

-Woolly Rhinoceros (if mammoths are being suggested here might as well throw this into the mix as well)

-European/Eurasian Cave Lion (an ice age cave dwelling lion slightly larger then its African cousins that was also native to Siberia)

-and finally Moose just to name a few Siberian natives for inclusion into the game

The main reason why I including the cave lion and Woolly Rhino as well as the mammoth is because it is pretty clear that with the appearance of mammoths in the game the shelter series takes place some time during or at the exact end of the Pleistocene ice age.
