But I think we were supposed to sneak to the hill with Shilka and destroy it.
I killed everything at the map before completing first objective - didn't need to do it really but did it just for fun
You can capture BMP at the mission start - it will help you a lot. Just take a tank crew at the mission in advance.
A BMP is near the starting zone - there is a fire near it, you will see
To capture it you should turn off RPG and attack it in close combat with grenades not to destroy it but to damage.
Capturing shilka is also a good idea - it's a cool and very fun weapon. I captured it by shooting at it with 12mm snipers from the max distance. Several shots were needed
Ah and you can capture t72av there either - just should be lucky enough to damage it with ATGM in several hits without killing it
^ I also did most of what you did too lol
It was quite fun and a walk in the park...since the T72AV is heavily armored...it soaks up damage in the middle of the map lol
BMP needs tank crew. You should take tank crew with you in the beginning of the mission
The chopper is vital to the mission. There's fuel on a mountain, but you probably need to reinforce with one ammo truck more.
The way I did it was to take out the hilltop, but not conquering it. Then mining the road and crawling up to the comms relay. Regular infantry and the SPG against the shilka, once smoke is lifted. Then grab the ammotruck, mine the road, and retreat gradually at the same time as you fight the central hill with your reinforcements. Chopper vs grads and the overlooking BMP to cover the retreat, before rearming.
Use crouching hezbollah to take out the mortars. Chopper for the vehicles. Fortify the hilltop. Mine the road to your reinforcement location. Fight the counter-attack. Advance to the comms relay. Be ready to destroy the convoy that wants to wreck the oil pump, chopper is ok.
Once the comms relay has been captured, focus on the oil zone. Difficult opposition here, esp AA, which renders the chopper useless. I used two captured tanks, two bmps and some vehicles + inf support for the assault. However, the oil rig + slope ruins targeting. Taking out AA is priority (which is difficult due to targeting issues). Use the chopper to blast the remaining tanks and vehicles. I captured one tank, lost 2 tanks, 1 bmp, 1 vehicle, 1 militia squad. Near loss situation, very costly.
There's also an annoying bug where the chopper can hover above your camera view. Tricky to find it sometimes, especially considering low fuel.
My english is poor but I will try to explain. Don't fight with this BMP in the open field. Just show one your squad to it and run away to the place right where this hill starts so BMP won't be able to shoot at you from the hill but will go down the hill and you should just make an ambush right near the hill so when BMP goes down the hill you infantry will attack it with grenads (RPG should be turned off). And of course you should take one tank crew on misson with you in advance.
Actually it's a common rule of this game - if you have to start a misson without tanks cause devs didnt want you to have tanks there - take 1 tank crew with you anyway - you won't regret
Taking that Shilka on the hilltop will make your life easier. How to do it?
Use smoke on the location where you are about to engage with your BMP or RPG squad. Normally 1 RPG should be enough
