Scrap mechanic, where you play as a farmer with barely any scrap
note: had to remove lots of points due to the character limit (review written at 30h in for refference).

Lots of comments hinted at a nirvana where most issues are fixed later, 10h later, still haven't reached it instead I hate it even more, while I only managed to write half my gripes with the game due to character limit (didn't talk about bugs for example) the list now doubled, more qol missing, more design flaws, and worst thing: Padding, this game is like Ubisoft level of padded, Hubert will keep on asking you to meet him even when he is over 3km away to say 2 lines and give 1 item before sending you back where he called you from.(10 min drive for 5 sec interaction)

Here's a hot take, if I have to suffer for 50h before game gets better/issues get fixed, maybe the game isn't that good, also gaslighting doesn't help your case (example: ""scrap" being in the name doesn't mean recycling lol")

First off I will admit that I'm impressed by how much the devs improved the game,
One main issue I had with the survival mode was the lack of progression, Since before as soon as you got your craftbot in the garage around 30 min in you already unlocked 90% of the items now we have a full progression system, but that doesn't change all the shortcomings

The name of the game is on the borderline of false advertising, while the name might make you think that this will take place on a mad max/fallout planet where you have to salvage ruins in order to improve your vehicle with the scraps,

In reality it's a farming sim on a lush planet where you use wood stone and metal to craft instead of scraps and the combat is mostly done on foot with hammer and guns

When I said farming sim I was not exaggerating, most of the game is locked behind the farming section where you have to:

1. plant a field with crops,
   
2. wait 1 min
   
3. defend a small wave
   
4. wait 10-60 min for crops to grow
   
5. harvest
   
6. bring to packing station [structure]
   
7. take packs to settlement [structure]

The other half is the dungeons: growlabs and warehouses, where you get blueprints for useful items and other material blocks

The most important resources in the game are components and metal, you will burn through hundreds and even thousands of both.

That's why it's baffling how hard they are to grind, haybots are the main source dropping 20 metal (after refining) and having a chance to drop components, you are more likely to get gas.

Gas which btw is the easiest thing to farm in the game, you can go underwater for a minute and you'll get ~50 oil (lots of deposits with short regen time) this oil then is converted to fuel at a 1-1 ratio over 5 sec. this is faster to get than wood. So glad I get this instead of the most important resource in the game.

Also for some reason the massive chests are the worst sources of loot, usually giving 1-2 basic items, the small smash-able boxes on the other hand always give 3 items and often will have really good stuff. ironically after I wrote this line in my notes the next big chest only gave me 4 literal turds,

The game has Side quests asking you to build vehicles and structures, on paper its a great way to teach the player how to make use of the different systems like drills and suspensions,
In reality instead of using it to also teach building techniques on how to make cool vehicles they are all about making a box with wheels and slapping the "new" parts on,

"your nice car" for example looks like a bicycle drawn by a 3 yo from the side, not only that but you can't drive it in first person because the engines (yes plural, I guess they forgot you can upgrade it) block your view, imagine if instead you made a cool dune buggy or a truck,

The dungeons also have "puzzles" but they boil down to "hit box once so it slides down the rails and then climb on it", unfortunately it seems the devs forgot the lift can be used to climb up things so you can just skip them all.

The combat is really bad both melee and range are just not fun and you being squishy with seemingly no way to improve means you will die a lot.

Melee boils down to hit twice and run away, you can beat most bots by holding click and going backwards.
Ranged is not any better since the first spud gun is extremely inaccurate, even aiming down leads to the potatoes going to the side. (dw accurate version unlocked only 30h in)

The dungeons boil down to enter room kill 10-50 enemies go to next room repeat, most of these rooms also have no loot other than the drops (which are at lower drop rates than outside) and the bad "puzzles"

They are also extremely expensive to complete enemies spawning in huge bulks(5-20) and some areas spawning them RIGHT ON TOP OF YOU dodge them all (especially when ranged bots have aimbot)means you will burn though lots of ammo (due to sheer amount of enemies) and healing.

Just to prove how bad they are here's a comparison to the 2 closest ruins I found after 2nd Growlab (* = mostly from mob drops)

the amount of QOL missing is insane:

• no parachute - finishing ruins takes around 3-5 min, afterwards you have to walk all the way down for another 2 min
  
• no mobile scan - having a hand scanner would so much nicer than having to carry 50 decorations to a structure
  
• no dungeon respawn - dying in dungeons means you have to climb back up to the entrance wait 20 sec for the elevator (timed it) and then spend another 5 min getting back
  
• no vehicle recall - did you die and are now 2 km away from your car? have fun walking for an hour
  
• no compact respawn - I really enjoy building a nice car just to slap a bed on its roof
  
• No Chest Keybinds - there is no quick stack/grab key,
  
• Can't Scrap - yeah in scrap mechanic you can't scrap old/extra parts for materials
  
• No Map- GL finding any non story location
  
• No workshop - Apparently you can do it later, dk when that is since 40h in, I still can't

Really disappointing over all, this update took 6 years and while calling itself the 1.0 it feels like early access still, Making the price increase kind of scummy since 1.o is in name only, definetly not worth the 29€ price tag especially when there are other physics based sandbox games now.

Also quick warning a lot of the recent positive reviews have nothing to do with the current state of the game (there were 300 new positive reviews before the update was out)

Great game. Having a lot of fun.

Thumbs down because of the stupid unstuck feature. Why on earth would I want to drop EVERYTHING and return to the SPACESHIP? Whichever person green-lit this 'feature' is an idiot. Your game forced me into a hole I wasn't trying to go in, and then forced me to unstuck my way out of it. Now i have a 10 year hike ahead of me.

Why couldn't I go to the bed? What's the point of those things if not for respawning?

Having a blast otherwise. You can have your thumbs-up when this 'feature' changes.

I've owned and played this game for almost 10 years. It truly is such a fantastic game. Up until the recent 1.0 release, I have had absolutely zero issues. But since the release, I cannot seem to play this game for more than 15 minutes without crashing. And sometimes crashing within 2 seconds of loading the world. Luckily the load times in this game are very quick, so I can get back into my world within just a minute or so. However, that doesn't alleviate the frustration of loading back in to my vehicle and my character being in two different places, having to wonder if it's now where I first got in my vehicle, or wherever it was when the game crashed. Only to then retrieve my vehicle, start driving, and crash again.

I cannot express my excitement when I found out this game was officially releasing. I gathered my dad and my son a few days after release to play it with me when I finally had a day off of work, only to be met with these frustrating crashes making it basically unplayable. It looks like the devs put together an incredible addition to an already incredible game, based off of the trailer. I really hope to get to experience it soon. I have little doubt the devs will fix the issue, but until then, I unfortunately have to give it a thumbs down.

Devs, I have sent multiple bug splat errors to you via the bug splat application. I hope you respond with some information on how to resolve my issues.
