Animations? First time hearing that someone complains about them...
So what? Your opinion vs mine?
Walking / running looks silly af. Fighting stance to block is not even animated really, just instant switch. A lot of combat moves are instant too, they have a wind up, but the actual swing isn't there. It's covered up by "enemies are really fast lulz", so what u do is dodge or strafe right before the hitbox spawns. You can see this best at the second boss, when he picks up a bolder and then throws them at you. The ball instantly teleports to your position lol. And generally animations look just bad.
I like the game, but again, animations are very bad.
3:50 and slow down video to 0,25 and u will see how horribly wrong ur.
enjoy
The time between the boulder being in his hand and it hitting the target location is locked, so it's always the same time span. If you're further away from him it reaches you just as fast as if you were in melee range. That's what i mean by teleporting. You'd expect it to take more time until it reaches you, but it doesnt. So you always dodge when he lets go of the "wind up" animation instead of when the boulder actually should hit you. That's also why sometimes the fights in nioh feel wrong / off.
But let's just pretend for a second I was wrong - the animations still look silly, stiff and robotic.
Animations are mostly anime cliche. But still more realistic martial arts moves than their musou games and ninja gaiden fest.
This isn't quite true really, traveling time is there. But it have magnet aim though.
I didn't mean the "style" of it rather than how they feel/look. For example the running animation of William is horrendously bad. Depending on what boots you wear it looks like he kicks his own butt nonstop. There's something off about it, and about some other animations aswell.
we dont need pretend anything.. u just need stop your lies..
do u think its possible?
I got it, you're not talking just about flashy moves or attacks. Maybe I did exaggerated in calling it anime like too. But If you're taking about something like animations the only thing there is to talk about is either how they look or how practical they are in the game. It is a visual thing in the first place.
William dashing animation pretty much mimics the classic samurai/ninja run that everyone is used to from movies or whatever else in the pop culture. And it was probably made the way it looks to be cohesive and to fit well with the overall game setting. Even if it is not perfectly historical accurate. You cannot simple separate it from the general game art style, otherwise the game will lose its identity. The game is about fantasy feudal japan around samurai stuff. It doesn't mean people cannot find it ugly though.
However, I have to agree that it makes no sense at all for William to run like he does, because he did not had previous contact nor he went though any samurai training or whatever to be familiar with their fighting style. But again, we are discussing logic in videogames here. Things doesn't need to make too much sense.
The book on the ship(Liefde) taught him. Just like how he can handle some obscure Japanese techniques he should know nothing about. Handling a Katana(a single edge, curved sword) is pretty different from handling a typical Longsword(a double edge, straight sword). William knowing how to use Kusarigama is fine by me(just replace Kama with a Hatchet or a Machete and then it becomes quite a sailor weapon) as is him being able to handle Axes(...pretty straightforward), Spears(though not all of its techniques) and Tonfa(just batons, nothing fancy).
But yeah, it's The Book. Also, I don't see any "girly run" here. Just your typical pseudo Samurai styles.
