The secondary scaling stats vary from weapon to weapon. The most obvious case of this is with axes. Axes go str>stam>body but hammers go str>body>stam even though hammers are still technically axes. Don’t worry about that though since the scaling difference even between C+ to D+ is negligible.
If skills are locked behind a “must complete ???” Mark, that means they’re locked by a dojo mission which requires either more points in a particular stat or for you to increase your weapon proficiency.
Sword and dual sword have different strengths and weaknesses though tbh, sword is capable of higher dmg. But if you just want high numbers, then odachi is best for newer characters due to how powerful imperative strike and moonlit snow is and the fact that those skills can be unlocked much earlier than swords lai quickdraw or duals sign of the cross which are those weapons heavy hitting skills. Moonlit snow (odachi) can also be used while living weapon is active making it insanely powerful.

focus on 3 stats, not 4 for both weapons. except for ninjutsu 20, magic 20 and spirit 34
for ??? skills, just progress in story
about gear, mmm, for dual sword? there is a set that boost Sign of the Cross skill
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/181161-nioh/75114258
but if u dont use that skill, mmmm. u can use 3p of this set and combine with other set
https://nioh.wiki.fextralife.com/Seven+Misfortunes,+Eight+Hardships
the thing is u will have agi B
mmm, there is a katana set, OP OP
https://nioh.wiki.fextralife.com/Dragon+Ninja
but u will left ur weapon choices, dual sword and spears
but damage, mmmm. my overall time to clear missions, in first NG, is 30 minuts, 35. a mission took me 50 minuts haha. that cause didnt use jutsu to boost damage

There are a few, but in general some good buffs are:
Kekkai Talisman: Super Ki Recovery + Instant Purification - and the purification counts for any "On Purify" effects you have on your armor
Quick Change: for obvious reasons
Tiger Running: That burst of speed is astoundingly useful in getting you into just the right place at the right time
Pleides Talisman: paired with
Extraction Talisman: Near infinite LW for you, or quick recovery back to LW if needed
Paralysis-resist Pills OR Resistance Talisman: Enough things get a paralysis effect that it doesn't hurt, and it's one more effect if you're running Kigetsu
Carnage Talisman: especially useful when paired with
Steel Talisman: to counteract the Defence debuff of Carnage - you end up hitting harder and taking more hits
Leeching Talisman: THE best Attack booster in the game. The life-drain is annoying, but provided you keep Tenacity and an eye out, nothing you can't manage. Most things should be dead by the time you need to worry about it, in any case
For the side-areas:
Cat-walk Scroll:
Suppa Scroll: combined, you can walk right up to most enemies and pose in their face undetected. Easy to avoid fights you don't want, or to line up that perfect Iai to the back. If you have to choose one (like Fox), go Suppa, as it's still plenty effective on it's own.

didnt play today yet and learned something new about my main weapon haha
odachi is slow but not that slow motion like in matrix. u will deal 1, 2 hits before evade haha
didnt compare damage, but what liked about odachi is the range. at lvl 700 used a skill, the moonlit one. is OP, but super slow
use the weapon u like. there are many ways to increase ur damage
is not that slow as u think. also as said fox, is slow but deals high damage. if u dont like the dual sword like to keep trying, yeah, use the reset book and try the odachi, or other weapon
u can use high stance for vertical hits
for skill, u have moonlit, and the twin moons, is a good one too
check the link i posted
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/181161-nioh/74970134
and use sign of the cross skill

If you’re interested in kusarigama, it shares the same 3 scaling stats as tonfa and the two work together nicely. Though kusa is a little too strong imo. Especially if you roll a dragon ninja build.
