I killed this boss by getting his health half way, then using Living weapon. I was using the Shark Guardian so that will help more Water > Fire.
P.S you will love the next boss :D
I didn't find Hino-enma as hard (especially if you come prepared with anti-paralysis items). Nue though... Oof. It's like Onryoki's power and Hino's speed combined.
It's OK, I spent around 2 days before I defeated him solo and almost gave up except refused to be beaten by a game
You need to dodge behind Onryoki but need to guard after hitting him before he swings them balls.
As said, revenants reset when you pray at shrine. Get some ochoko cups and pretty certain a visitor will help you ... just don't go rushing in and wait for visitor to cast spell and take lead. You will unlock Starting Point after him and more options will open up.
I found both Hino-enma and Nue quite easy (if dying to them 4 times respectively is considered easy).
Regarding Nue, all you have to do is circle around one of the two unpassable square areas in the center of the boss area, just wait for it to shoot its beam and quickly run to it clock-wise, since it always shoots its laser from (player perspective) right to left and hit it 2-3 times (middle stance), fall back.
Regarding Onryoki: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNnl3Z4M9mY
First meeting with Nue, I watched a video where if you run and stand inside one of two pegolas, his lightning will not harm you except you need to bait him to break the pegola walls and stay close. You will still need to dodge his beam and rolling attacks but when he's about to attack, hit him in the belly to drain his Ki.
1. Level up. When I beat that boss, I had cleared the map until I was lvl 20, the game is fun to farm in so it went fast.
2. Change the way you approach the game. Go in there not with the intent to win, but rather to learn how the fight goes; don't attack, just dodge and stay alive as long as you can, repeat until you know his moves, then start weaving in a hit or two, and progress that way. Expect to die a lot up front, its part of the process so make it constructive.
That does tend to make for bad habits when you go through higher difficulties, though.
From Way of the Strong through Wise I just LW cheesed Hundred Eyes, and then on WotN it didn't work anymore and I needed to learn the fight all over again.
Every WotN boss was a new learning experience for me. For most of them, the strategies I'd used earlier just got me killed before I know what was up. Heck, I died a half-dozen times to WotN Umi-Bozu until I found out that Onmyo was no longer the (primary) solution.
Yeah... I try not to use LW unless I absolutely have to. I prefer the technical aspects of learning to fight with your skills as is.
