if you want to have an easy time get some Quick-Change scrolls from Ninjutsu and Sloth/Weakness Talismans from Magic, while trying to find Tatenashi/General Kigetsu armor pieces without going over 70% weight

Odachi scales mainly with str but it also scales decently with stamina. So you’ll want to put most of your points in str, but be sure to raise your stamina too. With high stamina you can run heavy armor, so you’ll want to build for tankiness.

The set pieces that you’ll want to hold on to will be he who never retreats, samurai of dark lands, and the god of war looks down. Ultimately you’ll want to run god of war but a full set of heavies takes A LOT of stamina points to get a B agility rating. I have 165 stamina and I still have to have weight reduction bonuses on two pieces to get B agility.

If you don’t mind C agility (ie: fatroll [its not as bad as DS fatroll]) then you can run heavy from the start, but I’d recommend using medium armor in early levels.

For skills, make sure you unlock and use devastating rush, imperative strike, moonlit snow, twin moons, tigers blade and get all your passives. That said, if you find a weapon with +skill dmg for any of these skills specifically, hold onto it. Odachi can lay down some really high skill dmg.

Odachi isn’t the easiest weapon to use efficiently so practice using the skills and don’t get lazy and just spam quick attacks. Also I wouldn’t bother with running elemental damage. The odachi doesn’t attack fast enough to lay down some status ailments.

Overall, Odachi is a really good and fun weapon to use but unfortunately lacks a proper parry, so it’s a great workhorse for yokai enemies but against humans, it will never be as effective as swords of dual swords which have a parry grapple.

I’m a bit biased when it comes to that so maybe just ignore me lol but I ran odachi on my first playthrough and I really loved it. But it was greatly outshined once I tried a specialty build for mad spinner axe.
