What beats what?
So know water hurts fire, and it seems that fire also hurts water. But I just fought Nue using an earth enchanment talisman...and it didn't seem to hurt it much, and neither did air. Can someone lay it out what hurts what the most for me? Because half the reason I was taking magic was for the weapon enchantments, but now I don't know what to use on what.

Sloth beats everything.

nue is weak against water.

There's a glossary(amrita memories) of monsters/characters you had fought before in your menu(overland map). In it, a detail page(change information, RT on controller) where you can see their strength and weakness.

Well he doesn't have beaten nue, so he can't know its description...

In Nioh those elemental charts we use in almost any game to guess weaknesses....forget them. Trial and error, or a google search, will show that opponents have varying weaknesses.

I found that it is easier to focuss on what the elements do when you apply them to your weapon and go from there.
1. Fire = obvious and has an ok DoT. Works great against Umi-Bozu and similar blobs
2. Poison = Bigger DoT for almost double the time. Overall more useful then Fire.
3. Lightning = Slows opponents down a little
4. Earth = Slows/stops opponents Ki regeneration. Perfect against humans. Especially when combine with the Omnyo magic that stops Ki regen as well on target. Once one wears of you can combo the other after it.
5. Water = next elemental attacks do double damage. Or close to it. Works great against Firewheel Monks and the like...which is obvious.
6. Wind = no idea...never cared for it to find out.

I usually have Lightning, Water on my shortcuts. Switching Fire and Earth depending on the area and opponents I'm fighting.

In case of Nue I'd go with Water Element and try to do double damage. Making the hits you do count even more. Then again..his lightning is weak against water. Which is a nice extra boost.

Wind reduces attack power. The damage the inflictet enemy does is lessend quiete considerably.

What you should do is try to apply TWO elements at once. Then the enemy get some Yin Yang symbol on them and you can wreck them. Works on Bosses on Way of the Demon. You might need a buddy for that though.

The general rule of thumb for easy remembering (which is hard because it's very unintuitive): Fire beats Water. Water beats Lightning. Lightning beats Wind. Wind beats Earth. Earth beats Fire.

Exceptions exist in a few places: I believe the earthen stone sentries are weakest to water along with firey wheelmonks losing to water. There's also the Orochi but that exception is that it is plain weak to every element

Wind, like mentioned, is a SIGNIFICANT debuff to attack damage. In the area of 50% at least. I've heard some people report 75%, although they may be exaggerating.

Note that unless you really build for it, in the higher difficulties you'll probably kill the mob before you can get the debuff to stick.

i like to think water is ice, since fire generally beats water.

other than that theres no logical sense to what beats what, its just random for the most part
