Defiling gear?

I played 3 missions on WOTN and I find ethereal drop rate dissapointing compared to when divines was first introduced, so I'm looking to try defilement.

A couple of questions though:

1. is it guaranteed or chance based
2. is the Set name maintained or is it rolled randomly. If the set is unchanged, what about the properties/stats/prefixes/affixes or whatever theyre' called. lol.
3. does the base level and + level increase.
4. does it matter what rarity you are defiling.

I've read on a post that you start getting ethereals from defiling at floor 20 upwards?

1. It is dependant on floor and some luck. However, I heard it only takes luck if you try multiple items, just defiling one item on floors 20+ should always turn it ethereal.
2. Set armor stays in its set, other items (except charms) get a Grace set assigned. Traits are not changed, unless there is no room when adding a set, in that case a non-inheritable, non-starred trait will be overwritten randomly. Another thing to note is that grace sets are floor dependant, there are 3 pools that cycle, but there are already threads explaining that.
3. Yes, both, but only if the completed floors are deep enough.
4. Divines turn into Ethereals. I have not tested anything below. It would be a waste considering those items have less traits, and some are not available depending on quality.

Yes, floors 21-25 are the basic defiling spot, items should go up to 300+27 there as well.

This is wrong. It can overwrite inheritables and starred effects, so be careful.

You can turn lower rarities into higher ones, at least exotics can be turned into divines and then ethereals.

Also, just defiling one item is not a guaranteed way to make it ethereal. I've had it happen several times that a single defiled item did not turn ethereal. It will turn ethereal with a good chance but far from guaranteed.

Go above 30 floor, the chance are higher.

Defiling is not really the best way to hope for good ethereal gears that works for your build.
Best are still putting in the work and mass forge with smithing text, then defile divine into ethereal.

Other than upgrading gears to ethereal, the other purpose is to get specific grace that you need. Most of my stuff are forged as divine then upgraded to ethereal.

That works when you do have a smithing text and a ton of Droplets of Decay - and it lets you upgrade stuff in bulk in short time. Some smithing texts like Dodanuki Masakuni can be a pain to get, while divines are not that rare. An easier, though not entirely fair, way is to defile one item and savescum the grace you need on an easy Abyss boss.

thats why put in time and work for the text? and don't compare to dodanuki mamasuki text pls, its really meant for super late game. most set and text can be gotten early while playing through wotd to wotn, much more easier than that stupid 100 mobs royal rumble.

save scum is like almost a must, unless u have like tons of droplet and disposable gears and material to burn,
