Also the change to attack (spirit) affects the shown attack value so the reason they are 30 apart is because one has a better change to attack rank.

Or my game is bugged or the soul thing is totaly bs.
In addition, that component Raikiri you're using is better than the one you're merging it with since it has the Proficiency bonus, so just equip that one instead of sacrificing it.
That's from the familiarity, once you soul match the base equipment loses it's familiarity, that's why all the stats are going down.
As a quick note, increasing 1 level is not worth the effort, the extra damage you get is minimal, you are getting a whole 4 points of damage which nets to about 2% extra damage, I wouldn't bother to soul match unless you are giving hte item 20+ extra levels.
Yes, exactly to the two posters.
Notice that when you start using a new weapon, the Familiarity is set at 0. As you use the weapon, or use Whetstones, the Familiarity will start increasing and so will the Special Effects on that weapon.
As previously mentioned, when Soul Matching, the end result weapon gets Familiarity set back to 0. In some cases it will look like the end result weapon will have lower stats when in reality, you need to get the Familiarity back up which in turn raises the Special Effects and the overall Attack number.
If you Soul Match with two weapons that have Familiarity both at 0, you will see a greater change in the Attack number and where the Special Effects are the same as with the starting weapon. And again, as the Familiarity rises, that weapon's Attack number will rise.
Hopefully that helps clear things up. Read through that Handy Nioh Guide as there are great tips in there by the person who put it together.
If the Special Effects percentages shown in Finished Form are reduced, will they increase back (or surpass the original percentages) when Familiarity of 100% is regained?
