This 2nd fight with Nue is garbage!

Its bad enough that its rainy, and the area is so tight that the camera is constantly completely blocked by walls, or Nue himself, but all the rocks in the tiny arena are CONSTANTLY causign me to lock onto them, instead of Nue himself.. This is driving me crazy! Theres difficulty, thnen theres terrible design.. This, is terrible design!

Good thing it's an _optional_ fight in an _optional_ area that you're straight up told "sometimes it's better not to fight".

That said, did you know that breaking those amrita spikes gives you near complete immunity to Electicity? Maybe, just maybe, the developers had a reason for making it easy to lock onto them...

Yes ive been breaking the crystals.. But his swip drops me in 2 hits if it connects..the lightning isnt aproblem.. Its the camera, and lock on..

Its a main mission, how is it optional? Regardless, I like to loot, and beat everything..

You have to drop down into the mini-arena with a path clearly visible to your right that continues on with the mission. The cat spirit pops up and all but tells you "this is an optional fight. It's going to be harder than the rest of the level. You can come back later, you don't need to do this now."

If you're getting killed that easily, it might be a good idea to come back later when you've levelled up a bit and unlocked a few more skills/onmyo/ninjutsu that will let you meet this fight on more even ground.

He can be easily cheesed with ranged if you don’t want a real fight. Just shoot him and run away from his Lightning ranged attacks. They’re really easy to avoid.

Im actually lvl 65.. My gear is lvl 60-62.. When his double swipe catches me, its a 2 hit kill.. Lightning isnt a problem, other than a momentary stun.. Calling it garbage may have been a bit of hyperbole, but only just.. Theproblem Im having is the camera beign completely blocked by Nue, or the tight walls, and getting hit if Im trying to get a proper lock and trying to avoid his attacks.. For a big boss, hes a bit quic0k.. Using Ninjitsu can easily get me killed waiting for the animation to allow me freedom of movement again.. Ive had him nearly dead a few times, but he can be tough..

If he is in the path to the final objetcive, I dont exactly consider that optional. Everything is optional in this case, aside from mandatory bosses

Don’t use ninjutsu then. Buff, hit him with weakness talisman, go to town.

Oh, I see what you mean.. Thats not exactly what I would consider optional.. If thats the case, everything aside from mandatory bosses to progress can be considered optional.

Calling it "garbage" was obviously hyperbole.. Though only just so. I do feel the environment is moreproblematic that the boss, and not in a good, challenging kindve way..

And Im actually about lvl 65. My Iga set was lvl 50-55ish, so I swapped to Red Demon for this fight..its lvl 20-62and offers slightly more armor, allowing me to survive an extra hit.. But like I said, its not so much Nue the problem, as the environment.. My camera keeps getting completely filled with nue, and the tight walls often cause it to zoom in extremely close to William, making visibility zero..

The other problem is lock on.. There are 4 crystals that keep getting my reticle incorrectly, and this hased caused me a handful of deaths just trying to strafe away long enough to get a proper lock.. Obviously, this often purts Nue off screen, and then I get wrecked in a combo while frantically trying to fix the damn lock on. (I dont know how some people play these games without lock.. I have to have my strafe, and keep my enemies centered on camera)

I havent had this much problem since I just started playing the game, and could not for the life of me, get down the mechanics and beat that first boss on the boat.. took me 3 days, lol..

I hear ya. Some missions took me days as well on my first playthrough. But as you play and get better, it becomes less and less that way.

It has become easier, no doubt.. (Especially from that first day.. shew! lol) But still entertaining, and whoilly keeping me wanting to progress.. There are still a few really steep difficulty spikes, but I manage.. Liek the Ice Queen.. Good lord would she wreck me! This one though, feels slightly out of my control.

This is ectually my 2nd character.. I was playing a mid armor samurai, using Odachi and Spear, with Onmyo, and this is the exact fight where I decided to start a new, light armored character with Kusarigama/Katana/Ninjutsu.. Im not fairing any better, lol..

If the camera is the real boss in this fight for you then try to change camera options under basic game settings. Re crystals - you might want to shoot them one by one and run away every time he chases you. Or you could shoot one crystal from above and when he runs around to get to you jump down and melee crystals. Are you playing with k/m?

Thats actually a good idea.. Just hope I beat him before I run out of arrows, lol... The first go, I tried shaving some HP off of him using this method, and ate a Lightning Barrage.. But he seems to not aggro, as long as you dont attack him diretcly, if hes on the opposite side of the area..

Re camera, I've just checked. You might want to set change targets when lock-on target is defeated to manual and set both settings starting with "reset camera..." to off.
He won't chase you unless you provoke him either by ranged or body pull. Don't you have a rifle or cannon? I'm afraid arrows won't do crystals and if you run out of arrows you will have to body pull and run up the hill. Be careful with large crystal in the corner, you should know by now what it hides.

As for the Larger Crystal.. the crystal before this part_if you go up the hut, and drop down behind it, killing the Anrita Fiend, then kill the crystal, it automatically kills the large ogre fiend_I was wondering if it would do large dmg to Nue, but havent been able to get it.

Once you get further and can effectively get armor sets and set up areal build the game gets easier.

Like in my second playthrough I got a kaido set mad spinner build going which trashed everything. But on the next NG it was back to the drawing board :/ after that I got a crossed sickle kusarigama attack from behind build which trashed everything then the next NG set me back again. And so on.

But if you want a really easy to put together build, farm out the kaido set from the axe dude dojo, and farm the bald dojo dude with the strategist of legend set. Get the strategist of legend 4 piece including the sword, this gives a massive Skill Ki Reduction. Fill the rest of the slots with kaido. Unfortunately you won’t get both 4 piece bonuses without the accessory with -1 set bonus requirements but it’s fine, the strategist bonus is more important than the kaido bonus. Reforge Skill Ki Reduction on the axe (don’t bother forging for anything else, it’s not worth it), then sit back and enjoy spinning for days.
