Oh no, he won't pre-order.

I consider performing sepukuku as bonus too

I start out playing and really likeing the combat and then when there is "no" story I tend to get bored with Souls/Bloodborne and just quit.
And I really like NIOH and and The Surge because you get both the combat and the story.

Obsidian knight, just so I can amuse myself by adlibbing samuel L Jackson lines while I play. ENGLISH MOTHERF#^+%R, DO YOU SPEAK IT??... answer is usually no.. :awkward:

I am expected more of the early times before william though.. sone unanswered question about Maria.

I would like to have a story of the main character kinda side with Maria first (Preferred an englishman). In the end, he kinda betrayed (or disagreed with Maria method) and defeats her... although not killing her.

From that point, Maria hates the englishmen (therefore william) and thats why she arrived in Nioh 1

I didn't really have much trouble following the story in Nioh. It was pretty simple and basically spoonfed to you. Here goes (by the way, SPOILERS AHEAD):
  • Bad man Edward Kelley (you can tell he's bad cause he wears all black, has tattoos, is bald, has glowing eyes, and has pale skin =P ) takes William's guardian spirit, Saoirse, to find this magic rock called amrita, which the spirit can find somehow.
  • William is upset by this and chases Edward Kelley to Japan to try and get Saoirse back.
  • William arrives in Japan, kills a bunch of people and meets Hanzo Hattori, who conveniently speaks English well enough to talk to William.
  • Hanzo offers a "you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours" kind of deal to help William track down Edward Kelley if William helps his lord, Ieyasu.
  • William runs all around Japan killing demons and running errands while the two major powers fight for control of the country.
  • William stumbles upon Edward Kelley's plan to resurrect Oda Nobunaga in order to incite further bloodshed (since apparently amrita can only be created during times of bloodshed).
  • William is too late to stop the resurrection and ends up having to fight Oda Nobunaga, but when it seems like William is gonna be killed, Nobunaga turns to Edward Kelley and is like "u thot i was gunna work 4 scrub like u? lulz **** dat **** im outta here l8r guyz roflmao" and leaves.
  • Kelley is pissed that his plan didn't work, so he summons a giant demon (again) to try and kill William.
  • William wins, kills Kelley, and gets Saoirse back, but then he finds out that Kelley was just a pawn all along (gasp!) and goes back to England to try and put an end to things once and for all by finding and killing the mastermind.
[*[spoiler]Meanwhile, back in Japan, Ieyasu and Co. win the war and take over the country now that Kelley isn't running around creating demons, kicking demon nests, and generally just trying to get everyone to fight each other.
  • William finds the mastermind and kills him in a rather anticlimatic battle. Afterwards, he uses a crystal ball and learns that the friends he made back in Japan are in danger, so he goes back there to help them out.
For those worried about custom characters affecting the quality of the story, consider this: would anything at all have been different if Nioh had a different main character? All William does is look grim and go kill demons. He's asked to do something and he just goes along with it. The story told in Nioh could have been told just as well with a custom character, because that's how little character William actually had. The biggest strength of having a preset protagonist is the ability for the writers to give that character a unique personality and motivations that allows them to really become part of the story and actually impact it. Nioh didn't do this. William was basically just a weapon wielded by Ieyasu to kill Ieyasu's enemies whether they were human or demon. If this is the way they're going to tell a story like this, then there's really no reason not to allow for custom characters.

Also, for those that haven't listened to or read anything about the interview regarding Nioh 2, this article sums it up pretty well:

Koei Tecmo teased the existence of Nioh 2 during Sony’s E3 2018 PlayStation showcase, but didn’t offer many details on what to expect for the hardcore action RPG. Now we know a little bit more about the sequel to Nioh, thanks to an interview with developer Team Ninja during today’s PlayStation Live From E3 stream.

Fumihiko Yasuda, director of the original Nioh, said at E3 today that he wants to create a “proper evolution” but “not [a] dramatic change” for Nioh 2. Though the first title was well-received, he said through a translator, there were certain things Team Ninja couldn’t accomplish during Nioh’s development. Yasuda hopes to fix that.

Yasuda didn’t divulge details on the story of Nioh 2, only hinting that it ties into the original game’s narrative; Team Ninja is still keeping its location and time period under wraps. Yasuda did say that the studio will be adding character customization for the sequel, based on player feedback, letting players choose their gender and race. That strongly suggests that we won’t be playing as William from the original game in Nioh 2.

Nioh 2 will still be a difficult game — “masocore,” to quote Yasuda — but the developer is hoping to create “more satisfying deaths for players.” Yasuda said that, as with the original game, Team Ninja plans to release at least one free demo for Nioh 2 to solicit player feedback.

Team Ninja creative director Tom Lee added that the studio feels more emboldened in its approach to Nioh 2, saying that the developer was “a little bit cautious and trepidatious” in creating the original game. “This time around,” Lee said, “the gloves are off. We’re gonna go in hard.

“The experience is going to be closer to what we really had in mind [the first time].”

Nioh needs a "story" like a porn movie needs one; it's just a pretext to teleport from one 3D space riddled with enemies to the other, smash buttons, kill bosses, pass levels, min-max to the brim.

I do not mind at all that William will no more be the protag' of the sequel, and i like to cosmetically customize characters in video games anyway.

You got my attention with your first sentence but I agree Nioh needs a more immersive story where the protagonist can also interact with NPCs like Witcher 3. I know Nioh is more an arcade action than an RPG game, but Nioh 2 can be more RPG, yes?

The whole reson that I bought NIOH was because there was "story" in it when I played the demo.
I really dont care about min-max or boss hunting or just passing a level as fast as possible.
I love being able to create my own character in story rich RPGs with coice like Dragon Age Origin and Divinity: Original Sin.
But in a Soul`s style game I really do prefer to have a set protagonist with a story and just the choice to edit armour and hair over a cusom character.
So I doubt that I will buy NIOH 2 unless it really surprises me.

I'm not opposed to the idea of making the character talk in Nioh 2, as i really like to do this in Fallout 1, 2 or New Vegas. I also picked the first Witcher plus Risen recently, and will see how it's done there.

So i won't mind if TN decides to change this a bit, or if they propose this time a continuous playable surface, but for me, the trio combat/gear/stats must still remains the core of the game.

he will probably be a skin in the game to transform as

(also funny how team ninja and fromsoft traded the custom character and pre-made one)

It was by the barest chance that Nioh's community turned out to be pretty awesome

It only tells me that... Nioh is harder than DS!!! Why it tells me? Because humanity gets stronger and stick together really only when get ass kicked! Like after eaerthquakes, tornados, floods etc... In those cases people help each other International and very generous! And in Nioh you get ass kicked quite hard and often! Beginning with first real Boss! ;) :niohmei: And also get help from people all over world!
