Correction: Dash around. Dash gives iframes.
I still don't really understand what ninjutsu, samurai skills, and focus are. So, if anyone isn't too completely annoyed by me and my constant questions, I would appreciate any explanation that includes how I use them.
Here are some questions about weapons: what does familiarity actually do? Do people tend to stick with one weapon because they've built familiarity with it? Why do some weapons have far more room for building familiarity than others? Weapons I have vary from 300, to 500, to 750. Should I find one weapon I like and stick with it?
I've noticed that I only have one weapon that says "parry" under it's special effects. I'm assuming I can't parry with any others.
Also, regarding the stat sheets for each weapon and piece of armor, here's another question: on some pieces of armor (for example), it will say something like "7.9% damage from firearms." Does this mean I receive 7.9% MORE damage from firearms while wearing it, or 7.9% less? A more general question is how do I know which pieces of armor and weapons are the best based on the stats and effects, all else being equal? There are so many effects and stats that I just have no idea. I also still don't understand when weapons say things about water/fire/wind. I know these are some sort of effects, and I read the guide posted above, I just don't understand how I bring them into play, or even when they affect anything.
Man, this game needs about ten more tutorials than the one it gives you! Somebody should really write a better guide than the ones I've found online.
Thanks so much to everyone. You've all ben an enormous help to me.
Just want to let you know that I read the guide and it's excellent. I have no idea how I'll remember even one quarter of that stuff, so I've printed it out to keep beside me.
So, I guess samurai skills go into weapon skills, although I didn't even realize until you said so that they can be spent on different weapons. I was spending them and then wondering why the skills I was buying weren't working with certain weapons. So dumb!
Also, check the requirements of your armor: you can wear whatever, but if you dont meet certain stats your armor bonuses will not work (that sweet +5 life on that hat - not gonna happen if you dont have 10str for example)
Dont be afraid to "mess up" your build, you can buy book of reincarnation and reset all your skills and stats (game gives them for some quests too)
And the last one thing: if game looks to hard for you - you can always summon someone from the shrine, just kill some revenants for ochoko cups.
Most important: Fallen bodies provide you Amrita,Defeating enemies & Soulstones give you Amrita & will boost Amrita gauge (the circle alongside your healthbar) when it starts glowing activate living weapon.
In case of the later - spear middle stance is a good defensive style. Kusarigama's middle stance and multiple combat skills provide great crowd control. Though kusarigama can be a little tricky with timings since it strikes with either weight or sickle, but chain itself does nothing to enemies, and your weapon can just fail to hit anything if enemies are too close. And katana in middle stance can also hit several enemies, and is generaly a surprisingly versatile weapon.
sneak up on one enemy, backstab (ninjutsu skill) and kill fast; break line of sight to reset the others. rinse and repeat
the passive skills of the trees work for every weapon (except those mentioning specific weapon).
Catwalking and suppa? Haven't seen those mentioned anywhere. I've tried to sneak up on enemies, but every time I get within ten feet they hear me and turn around. Maybe it's because I'm not using this "catwalking and suppa"?
Thanks a lot for the help.
Ah. I had no idea about the armor! Thanks.
Looks like the spear is working very well for me in this way. I guess I'm going to keep one weapon for one-on-one battles equipped, and another for crowds in my second slot. Good advice. Thank you.
It's too bad spears, tonfa, and swords are all different stats. I like using all of them, but I guess I better concentrate on one.
Can you explain the familiarity ratings for the weapons? I don't understand what higher familiarity does, or why some weapons only go up to 300, others 500, and then others 750.
You are just one of the lucky few who ask good questions ;)
Yes tis unfortunate you can't use different weapons unless you spread Samurai points all over.
Familiarity increases with use and boost your weapons' attributes and attack damage values.
Excellent, thanks. When does attacking from behind come into play? I can't seem to sneak up on anyone. Every time I try, the enemy hears me and turns around once I get within about ten feet of him.
Also note that there are various items that might have bonus for atacking from back. That bonus is also effective when you hit anything in back not just for backstabbing. There are several combat skills, notably with katana and dual swords, that will position you behind enemy and allow you to strike their backs. Afaik all enemies take increased damage when hit in the back anyway, even without any bonuses, and humans take massive Ki damage too.
