Seems to be a very grindy game
KInd of interested in the game as the combat seems to be very fun. After watching some Lets Play footage however it seems to be extremelly grindy. Its very much like Dark Souls . The difference being the environment is not interconnected and complex like Dark Souls. Have not made up my mind. Exploration seems to be just one corridor after another and endless battles.

The comabt is the main reason to play, plus the borderlands/diablo style looting

I never grinded in nioh and im on ng+ just saying, the combat system is better than dark souls imo different combos and weapons, combos a thing that dark souls is missing. Yeah the enemies dont differ much in looks but they def have different moves and the bosses are certainly a challenge. And noone is gonna convince you to buy this game either, you either like it or dont.

The loot system is actually pretty steady in the first playthrough if youre not heavily focused on building together a certain set. You also have the ability to save set builds on a page, max 10 builds, to quickly switch through equipment sets. so thats cool. not difficult to find the "Divine" set items.

If you are skill enough, you dont need to compensate with grinding for gears.

Environment ds are much more complex but when it comes to combat system, ds is like a toddler.

Only play this if you enjoy the combat.

There is almost no need to grind for anything on this game, just going through it will give you everything you need.

Grindy does not only mean that you are doing the same areas over and over again. Grindy means you are repeating the same thing over and over again. If there are many enemies and they are mostly the same enemies then that is grindy.

@Viper I have the ps4 version so can't speak with authority on PC version, but in answer to your question, yes and no (!), Yes it is pretty grindy in terms of the definition you gave just above (many of the enemies are similar but with different elemental/status effects, or weapons) and aside from unlocking shortcuts, yeah the levels don't really offer a lot of exploration. On the other hand it is in no way an mmo style grind - I'm only on the first NG+ and about to Platinum it - in point of fact I think you can plat it on PS4 without even touching NG+ as you don't need to equip level 15 Divine items (that's a DLC trophy on PS4).
Basically, yeah the enemies are pretty samey and the levels can be linear (but some really clever ones as well).
The game however has had me playing solidly since the beginning of December (I am not very good and was stuck for a while on one bit, it can be completed much quicker). Once I plat it I am done though - NG+ has no appeal to me once the story is finished (Same reason I only played through Diablo 3 main story twice) and I am not usually a fan of this sort of thing but.....I would recommend it. It's been a really enjoyable game and between the weapons, gear and set bonuses there are an insane number of character builds and playstyles to mess around with if you like that sort of thing. I'd suggest you wait til it's in a Steam sale or something - even if you are undecided I think it's the sort of thing that's easily worth even if you only play it a few evenings for some slice and dice fun if you see if for, say, sub-15 quid.

Thanks guys for the info. I will probably still buy it and give it a try. Might wait for a sale though.

the missions are same but some tactics which u might have used successfully in lower ng against the same boss might not be successfully used in higher ng. This difference becomes obvious once u use heavier weapons like odachi or axe, but once u learn the pattern the game becomes easy again

I can see that yeah. I platinum'ed it earlier today as it goes and I actually started with Axe as my secondary (Spear as main) and this probably contributed to how long it took me to clear Way of the Samurai! Yeah Axe took a bit of getting used to! I'll probably mop up the dlc storyline bits and that'll be it for me as I am not a grindy gamer for the reasons I alluded to above but yeah you do sort of adapt and change how you approach things in Nioh. About 2/3rds into WotS I changed from almost exclusive spear shenanigans and went full Iga Ninja. There really is a lot in this game which is why I recommnded it so highly despite some of the more "Diablo-esque" elements not normally appealing to me. It probably helps that I seem to be one of the handful of people who really enjoyed the story!

Doesn't that description fit like 9/10 games that release nowdays though? And I'd definitely disagree that 9/10 games released nowadays are grindy.
