Is there a viable Tonfa build that does not use the gunsticks?
Seems like every decent damage build has to do with the gunsticks. Locking yourself down to one high damaging move just seems so boring. I mean sure it can be fun at first but I feel like it'll get boring pretty fast if you rely too heavily on one specific move.

I want to pick Tonfas up but the last time I tried a non-gunstick build the damage was half of the Kusarigama which was just weird as my setup was nearly the same as far as damage bonuses go.

Preferably something that does not require you to shoot a list of debuffs at enemies at all times to do good damage. If anyone know of such a build and can point me to that direction, thank you! If not, understandable. Can't force a non-existent build out if it doesn't exist(yet).

It's a hidden bonus, just like familiarity damage, just the fact that you are upgrading omnyo power is enough.

Thank you! Do you think it's worth it overall in comparison to raising skill? Debating on CTA magic and just go full on magic with some skill points for equipments and such. Since there's no way to tell as it's like Familiarity damage, it'll be tough to figure out until it's done completely which can cost a lot of resources.

I believe you get roughly ~1% damage per 100 Onmyo power.
You should 99 your 3 base weapon scaling stats along with magic and then roll CTA Magic to get further scaling damage, so 4 scaling stats instead of 3.
Put something like 36 points in Spirit for I think I 2000 guardian bond is plenty enough so you get pretty quick recharge and it only takes 2 small stones to fill your guage, and enough dex if you need it unless you have enough locks, to get you quick-change scrolls, then when you increase your cap, pump magic and 2 of your main scaling stats to 200 and fill the other scaling stat with the remaning points on your way to lvl 750.
That's my advice

If you are running elemental, do not roll elemental damage on your weapon. Talisman is far superior and with over 950 Onmyo magic power, (200 magic, 99 spirit, secondary guardian spirit and using Onmyo boots and gloves) you will apply a status to neutral enemies in 2 hits from high stance.

Not only is talisman damage and status augmentation vastly superior, its damage is also much higher. Not that it counts for much compared to your physical damage, but it's still quite respectable if you have enough Onmyo magic power and are using low stance for quick pokes.

Also, be sure to get the star skill on pants that lowers enemy defense on applying X status.

There are also both accessory slots, weapon and a grace set to push for status augmentation of a particular element.

Maxing status augmentation and onmyo magic power will allow you to instantly apply a status to most enemies using a single elemental shot, meaning you have a superb ranged tool. It will also allow you to refresh the debuff fully with just...1 or 2 melee hits.

If you use Red Demon set, Sakuyahime etc, bascially sets that greatly empower your damage while an enemy has a corresponding debuff, then applying a status as quickly as possible and being able to painlessly refresh it with a single hit or two will be the central playstyle of elemental builds.

Thank you. This will most definitely help my rerolling chances out because that element is just not popping up. Good to know I can skip it if I do run talismans.

There are pants in the higher levels that are rare but have a green property of LOWER ENEMY DEFENSE (STATUS_GOES_HERE), whereas something like scorched/elecrocuted/saturated enemies would basically have the weaken debuff attached to them.

You could potentially use other Tonfa with these pants and get tons of damage going. If you get the saturated status debuff with the pants allowing weaken you could potentially melt characters.

It's important IMO to have Heavenly Chain in this build because it is so likely to apply status.

Use with main Guardian that allows for attack damage buff on skill use (the electric lion), and secondary guardian of Centipede for chip damage maybe.

I used tonfa's and magic , the game mostly about being stylish and stylish i did effectively! There's a Ki burst talisman magic (i think i dont remember the names cuz been a while) that damages their Ki when you dodge..and with Tonfas you do alot of dodging between attacks that'll weather them down for your long hitting combos.

With the main stat for tonfa is Ki recovery.. that'll make your attack longer!! On top of that lightning status slows them down so more window to react to dodges and water status lowers their defence.. buff ur weapons with water and blast them with lightning! Confusion gonna make their Ki ends quicker tooo! DEATH DANCE UPON THEIR GRAVES!!
