what is with people and the red demon set!?

so I have come from the ps4 when this first came out to now and I want to know...why do so many people use the red demon set? it is hands down the worst set, it only gives 9% damage (36% if its on fire) and its heavy, every other set I have seen gives a WAY bigger bonus + it is heavy! why! why do so many people use this garbage?

While you can get more damage out of other armor sets, Red Demon is one of the two things in the game that offers ki regen boost (the other being Kato). Don't underestimate it - while it's not necessary and you can just rely on ki pulses and stamina management trough defensive play elements, I'd rather have a fight take the same amount of time because my attacks were doing less damage rather than because I had to play less aggressively.
As for damage - the highest unconditional damage you can get out of a light armor set seems to be Sarutobi - about 10% more total than Red Demon - and it's not really fair to directly compare that to medium sets like Kingo (that I was using for quite a while) and WotW because of how much extra damage you can get out of stacking Agility Damage Bonus on your ranged weapons while having A agility with light armor. The same Sarutobi even before complete optimization outdid Kingo by about 20% because of that.

Majority of anything in overwhelming majority of cases is trash. That's how comparing things works.

And if you are thinking about picking up a new weapon type - please, for the love of Blood, don't pick tonfas. Use a normal weapon, like sword, dual swords, spear, odachi or even axe. Even Ryu Hayabusa uses a sword as his main weapon.

Sigma is the Ninja Gaiden remake they made for PS3. Black was the remake for xbox.
They're basically the same but Black has the original Ninja Gaiden game playable on it while Sigma doesn't, but Sigma has more weapons and more missions than Black does.

Red Demon is the first light armor set. (Okay, I guess the sweet tacticians robes are before it but they're very not damage output robes) It makes sense to use it if you're into wearing light armor for that A agility. It's definitely not the best set but I really don't get this "OMG Warrior of the West is infinitely better and you're dumb if you use Red Demon instead." Unless you're rocking the ENTIRE set or using the matching guardian spirit you're getting a whopping 1.1% more damage. And if you ARE using the entire set you are giving up the 50% (or more!) damage you get when attacking from behind for that 14.1% more CCD.

At least wearing the entire Red Demon set doesn't actually lower your potential damage output.

Easy to get, looks decent and sturdy. Goes well with cheap as**ed Spear builds.

Red Demon is a really good early game set, and combined with its spear spamming attacks in low stance, it is extremely easy to put fire onto them, increasing your damage by a lot. Plus, it gives a massive amount of ki regen.

Red Demon + Fire Status Spear is quite good and easy to build for / around.
The items drop a lot as well; which is why you will see a lot of people using it.

Combine that with the cost of Soul Matching / Reforging in the midgame; a lot of people won't bother changing out of it, if it still works for them.
