I feel useless
Hey,

So, Im doing a sword build (currently level 160-ish) and I feel completely useless both in the DLC and Way of the Strong (3rd region). I already used Book of Reincarnation to try differrent stats and i think I just got worse. AM I doing something wrong stats/equipment wise? Or I just need to git good?

Post your stats. What weapons and armor are you using? Any ninjitsu or onmyo magic?

For equipment, im using the things that give me better stats, not really doing any set, they arent dorpping. Maybe thats why

Equipping one of the full armor sets gives significant stat boosts. For a sword build I would recommend the warrior of the West set as it can be farmed easily from revenants. It pairs very well with the raikiri sword, which you get at the end of the first region, and any lightning guardian. I'd probably go with dual raiken. Instead of swapping out your gear once you have the set, upgrade it using the soul matching at the black Smith and get better effects from it by tempering it in the reforge menu, also at the black Smith. As far as ninjitsu and magic, the quick change scroll, sloth talisman, and weakness talisman are all must haves for the first couple playthroughs. A 15 in dexterity and magic should be enough to get you what you need. As far as stats beyond that, take the minimum requirements to use your armor set, the minimum stamina to wear it at the medium or light weight breakpoint, the minimum spirit to gain all the buffs from your gaurdian spirit, and then max out heart for damage and ki, and toss all your leftovers into body for hp and resistance to status effects. I hope this helps! That was a lot of info so let me know if any clarification is required.

So your loadout should look like this:

Nami-oyogi Kanemitsu
Raikiri
Warrior of the West bow
All warrior of the West armor peices
Paired raiken gaurdian spirit

Stats:
Body - all extra points, min of 9
Heart - 99
Stamina - 12
Strength - 9
Skill - dump stat, add none
Dexterity - 15
Magic - 15
Spirit - 12

You can trade some points in body for dexterity or magic if you like using them.

Have you reforged the stats on your weapon? Change to Attack is a must have. Close combat damage 20 percent is another good one. Reforge your armor as well. Put increase attack when amrita absorbed on your helmet. Stuff like that can really boost your damage. Don`t forget to use stuff like power pills, carnage talisman, weakness talisman, etc.

If you`re looking for a good armor set I can vouch for 4 piece Kaido 5 piece Susano. It may not be the best but it got me to floor 999 in the abyss. Then again I use the axe so I can`t say if it works well with other weapons.

Could you expand on 'feel completely useless'? What are the problems?

I reset one of my low level characters and below is what I'd use at level 160 (I tried both DLCs and WotStrong - feels easy):
Stats: https://imgur.com/NinG1go
Item shortcuts 1,2 and gear option 1: https://imgur.com/F31uZhc
Item shortcuts 3,4 and gear option 2: https://imgur.com/O3dvqbL
Agyo titles: https://imgur.com/P7gppXa
Ungyo titles: https://imgur.com/snqh1pX

You'd want to use skills and combos for attack and not basic - quick / strong. Ki pulse and flux are very important as well as appropriate use of item shortcuts. Here are some technics to watch:

I have to explore more the things you can do at the blacksmith. To farm a certain piece of armor its best to farm the materials and forge them on the blacksmith right? Th thing I dont understand is when I forge a weapon or a piece or armour it only has like 1-2 properties. I dont know how to increase that

I feel like i take waaay to long to kill elite enemies and most of them can 1 or 2 shot me. I dont know if i just need to play better or that in fact im not really using my equipment and items right. Its hard to have fun in those type of missions that end with a boss+"spam" of elites.

How did you farm your armour set?

I finished Way of the Nioh a while ago.and let me tell you this game's nowhere near as hard as they say although it takes a bit of research to get things going.
There's also some bad advice going around so be careful. You will read advice telling you to dump weapon stats in favor of magic + dexterity + spirit. I am running a 30/ something magic / dexterity / 34 spirit build at character level 700+ and am going both strong and tanky (far from the "everything-one-shots-you-in-Nioh-so-dump-hp" mantra some people keep saying).
There are some true hidden gem skills, though, that you'd rather be getting ASAP. You want ninjitsu's strength buff, backstabbing, insta-cast on yourself passive, and maybe the auto-rez scroll.
From the Magic tree you absolutely want insta-cast passive, amrita-on-hit + amrita-gauge-boost (even if you, like me, are not living weapon based), enemy armor debuff (weakness), speed debuff (sloth), and also levitation, which comes in pretty handy for those fire floors / web ridden quests.
Passive weapon skills, unless they explicitly mention the weapon type they affect, are shared among all melee weapon types, so you definitely want to grab those (ki burst enhancers are a no brainer).
Very useful tip: backstabbing is ridiculously strong, even out of stealth / in combat. Throwing an armor debuff, speed debuff, and waiting fot the boss to to a charge attack to reposition yourself at his back, then going to town with a couple strong whacks, will do wonders.
Also, don't spread yourself too thin. Make up your mind regarding what it is that you want your toon to be good at, and stick to it (until you reincarnate, at least; you'll need to adjust gear if you reincarnate though). Choose your guardian spirits wisely, too.

Regardless of stats / gameplay style, blocking is seriously OP in this game. This is no DS; dodging has few invulnerability frames. Bear in mind that high stance will eat up a lot of stamina if you block while on high stance (kudos to team ninja for this clever mechanic, btw).
Still, dodging to the enemy's back is one of the best things you can do _if_ you can do it.

But really, all you need to know if you don't want to "role-play" / smell the grass and would like to finish Nioh difficulty ASAP then run abyss etc (like I did) is this:
just run enough zone 1 & 2 easy quests to unlock marobashi. All you need to do to steamroll through marobashi is equipping mizuchi as your guardian spirit, strengh buff jutsu, armor debuff jutsu, enough Guardian Talismans, amrita-gauge combo, and then knock down your enemies with moment talisman, backstab them while on the floor, living-weapon while you can (make sure amrita buff combo is up), and spawn LW hard attack right after knockdown backstabbing. Very easy, extremely fast runs even with a full tank build like mine. Armor piercing is recommended but not needed (Bisha's centipede as secondary will suffice.)
That quest will also give you max level gear for your current difficulty level, so no reason to do anything else; farm it, go to Eyes of the Queen, get to the next difficulty level, rinse and repeat.
Again, do this only if you don't want to enjoy a more "natural", quite likely "as-intended" gameplay experience.

Yeah, i definitely need to do research about all the items that are useful. I was doing all main missions again in way of the strong but i will try that strategy. I really thought that nioh community was dead (~400 daily player-base) but I´m really glad to find out that there are dedicated players willing to help people like me. Thanks!
