- Unless you simlpy beat wotsam and move on but that's a problem you'll have to fix yourself.
At least magic problem is solvable by not using magic (and other items).
No but honestly, I think it kind of levels off towards the very end. At least in damage, it's nothing special. It'd be nice to have it balanced before then too but in my opinion, early/mid game is the funnest part already. That's not to say your opinion is invalid because you do need to gimp yourself intentionally sometimes if you don't want to feel like you're cheating. Thankfully, we have that option.
Anyway, Onmyo (and ninjutsu if you please) is simply a tool for typically more efficient combat. The game does feature some good combat but the high end of it seems to be about efficient clearing more than anything. Not that you need to play it that way: not everyone does because that doesn't appeal to everyone and that's fine, but it is what it is.
Both are fun, you can play this game how you like, nothing is forced upon you
the beauty of the combat depth is almost anything is viable, no doubt some are just op, but you are given the freedom to choose, and play whatever ways you wish to.
u even have stone, bow and barehand build to mix stuff up xD and those are really strong too.

a new playthrough
+ base game wooden sword or any starting gear

is the real challenge
Indeed, just unprepare the jutsu at the shrine or remove it from your short cut ;P I hardly use it now, except to help a struggling summoner ...
Speaking about another Onmyo skill, I have been testing Carnage with Steel, and am not finding it significantly more damaging than Power Pill ... did I miss something?
Sloth's effectiveness diminishes very quickly as you progress into New Game +++ and some bosses such as 9 tails will have an innate resistance to all forms of Onmyo effects and statuses. Using Sloth also messes up your timings, ability to read and predict a boss's moveset, so you will suffer greatly past a certain point.
As for inflicting confusion, to successfully to do it solo on WotN requires mixing certain graces, having certain optimally rolled accessories and a firm mastery of the boss fights.
@ Witcher in Japan: Carnage and power pills have their duration and effectiveness scaled with their respective justsu power. Carnage is still superior assuming all stats are equal. There's also no real point using steel talisman, especially if you are already on New Game +++.
I'm still on the first campaign and don't think I will go past NG+ to ponder the effectiveness of these jutsu later ...
The game just want you to use best ways or strongest builds to finish it. If it's too hardcore, it will have even lower playerbase.
If you don't intend to venture into New Game + and beyond, then jutsu scaling won't matter much. That said, you will see the largest impact in duration and justus effectiveness (as well as capacity) for the first 30 points. It slowly tapers off per 10 points.
In terms of overall impact, merely adding points or increasing your power in that respective jutsu isn't going to be noticeable.
It's only when you add status augmentation to your weapon and accessories, inherit +20% elemental shot damage on different armor parts, use Tengen Kujaku etc for its elemental damage and duration scaling, and tie them with specific sets and graces that Onmyo and Ninjutsu becomes very fun, and effective in almost any situation.
For example, gloves can roll duration bonus B+ or damage bonus B+ / 20% on most Jutsus, while accessories can roll for A+. Weakness talisman with duration A+ and significant Onmyo power will last considerably even on WotN.
Also, WotN allows your stats to hit a maximum of 200 instead of the default 99 and that's when builds really shine and scaling truly comes into play. (Stats scale minimally from 99 onwards, but still important if you have a specific playstyle in mind)
Also good to know Tengen augments Onmyo (and Ninja too?) skill damage & duration ... haven't unlocked it yet ;P
There's no glove special effect that augments all Onmyo or Ninja skills ... just specific ones, right?
Thanks again for sharing the info :)
