Okay... Um...
Is Yamato-No-Orochi really that broken? Because I was one shotting the heads with the timely guards... This HAS to be a bug and I swear I found this out only when I was trying to get my small slivers of missing health back with timely guards against Yamata-No-Orochi.

What happened?: Okay so I was summoned as a visitor to random individuals world and he was going to fight against the Yamata-No-Orochi. Well when I was just trying to wait for proper times for attacking I managed to timely guard the Yamata-No-Orochi but when I did. It one shotted that head for some reason. Not sure whether the host was pulling off nice shots with hand cannons but this happened two other times so I am pretty sure it wasn't host just timing this shots so well.

So... Is this a bug?

Nah, you were probably getting summoned to help someone on WotSamurai, while being much higher level yourself. WotSam Orochi is a pitiful joke, and I'm not surprised one bit that the miniscule Timely Guard damage was enough to kill a head.

Orochi doesn't start to become an interesting fight until WotW, and by that point he's nearly an endurance run. All in all probably my favorite boss in conception, and least favorite in execution

Each serpent has specific element. Shoot water attack to fire serpent and so on. Onmyo character will have easier time fighting orochi

Well the thing is... Timely guarded moments. ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO DAMAGE ANY OF THE ENEMIES. This probably is because I have Yata Mirror and it has perk that timely guarding incoming projectiles will deflect right back at the shooter. So it might be that but... Those head tackles should be counted as melee attacks not ranged. So... It has be bugged. Yeah I am overleveled for the Way of the Samurai but I didn't expect something like this.

I thought you might have the Timely Guard (Deflect Projectile) effect somewhere, but you didn't specify so I didn't want to assume in my post.

Yeah. That's one's an Ethereal effect for a reason. You'd be surprised at just how many attacks the game classifies as a "projectile" - and surprised at just how much damage the reflect effect will do. If you can regularly pull it off, it becomes an instant Hanzo counter and usually does enough annoyance to Sasuke to be worthwhile once you've memorized his AI triggers.

And again, Orochi is a weird boss. It's matched with the Centipede and Umi-bozu for bosses that have unique mechanics that make fighting them kinda weird once you're more seasoned with the combat system and can recognize their oddities for what they are. Nioh was developed in multiple stages, and most of the big Yokai bosses were designed early on when the game was still mostly a "Yokai Hunter" Onimusha knockoff instead of the William Addams adapted storyline. The fine details of the combat system were almost certainly polished out after these bosses were mostly finished, and thus weren't worth throwing out even though they no longer quite fit.

Don't forget, Nioh had an entire decade from first announcement to eventual release. There's tons of artifacts throughout the game. I'm just glad to have the BEST combat system I've ever had the joy of mastering.

this - I run once a pure mage and that's what I did (without even trying to treat water head with fire.. just used whatever). Plus at least on Samurai, Orochi is weak to ranged attacks - I've seen speedrun where the guy destroyed heads with matchlock and I used kunai and it was easy too.
