But if you want to switch it up with something of a more optimized build, 4 piece General of Kigetsu + 3 piece Tatenashi w/ Yasakani is an armor set that will work with pretty much any weapon type of your choice. It's semi-high investment though, you'll have to farm for the armor pieces first and you'll need some stats invested into stamina to keep your agility at B and at least enough onmyo to use Carnage, Hermit and protection/steel talismans (Usually ends up being around 33 for me if I also want to get all the useful passives).
As for what spear, I hear Shima Sakon's spear is good (especially with Yasakani), but anything with good rolls will work.
If you are not relying on blocking too much, consider Red Demon and Sarutobi Shinobi sets - you can get more damage out of those, especially if you add Agility Damage Bonus on top, and stay light on your feet.
Kingetsu/Tatenashi is more of a conditional build that doesn't work well once your buffs run out, and it pretty much locks you into one playstyle.
