Owning the PS4 version - Got a question
I bought the ps4 version hardly weeks before Nioh PC was announced.
I have the game on PS4 Pro and only started it yesterday. Giving it a shot.
I heard mixed things about the PC version.
To me the most annoying thing about the PS4 version is the blurriness and jagginess of the PS4 Pro version on Action Mode.
The first London level looked awful to me playing on a 4k TV. I could hardly see what's going on - and mixed with the darkness - it was really eye straining. So much so that my eyes were red and with a small inflammation on them afterwards. Should more it was late at night. Maybe I was too tired.

The performance was not too smooth but that's not the major issue. There's just so much pixelation and edges and jaggies.
I played Dark Souls 1 on PS3 recently and it didn't bother me and didn't look as bad. The texture and visual depth and tessellation of DS1 made DS1's ps3 graphics looks generally much better than Nioh's. Albeit it was on a smaller 1080 TV.

I am really disappointed with the game's graphics. I didn't expect a graphical showcase game here - but I hoped for something smooth crisp and clear. It's not on par with other PS4 Pro games.

However I got Nioh for relatively cheap. The game feels like it was made for PS4.
And I wonder if I should not start and buy the PC version.
Is there any real upgrade here?
Is it worth it?

I am on the fence between buying the PC Complete Edition or buying the PS4 Season Pass later.
I feel like I should probably just get used to it and play on the PS4 Pro. But not sure what am I missing exactly.

I have a 1080Ti.
I'd love to play it on true 4K 60 fps if the optimization and settings allow it. But not sure how better it will look. Seems like problems with the engine itself, maybe.

If you buy the PC version, and Nioh crashes once on you within the 2hr window, I'd recommend refunding it. Because that's just the beginning of many, many more to come.
Is that so? Good advice. Another thing I rather avoid dealing with..
Umm. Problem is 2 hours runs out like crazy and it's hardly enough to tweak and test performance and gameplay. Wish it was 4 or something. But beats nothing.

Something like 25-30% of the coop missions crash when loading. Black screen, then "Nioh stopped working'. It's extremely common. It's not unusual to play for 2 hours, and get 3-4 crashes. This happens for me on 2 completely different PCs, that couldn't be more diametrically opposite of one another. Intel + AMD GPU on one, and AMD CPU + Nvidia GPU on the other. Same, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ issues. Like nobody can tell me it's a hardware/driver related issue, or one of those 2 PCs wouldn't have the problem.

So yeah, I definitely can't recommend buying the PC version until you see a patch drop where they fix the 'crashes on loading screens' issue.

Go for the pc version, i have both in my house and pc version at 4k with reshade looks so much better than the rough looking ps4 version.
Other than that you can inject AA through reshade, fxaa and smaa.
My game would crash when i tried to load it with reshade last night(first time i tried with reshade) Uninstalled reshade, worked fine.
I chose the DX10+ bubble. Is the game another one?
i use dx9 reshade, rarely crash.

Funny how everyone is having problems and I am here running this game for 8+ hours without crashing. AND I am using and AMD card "RX 480". Smooth gameplay, steady 60 fps at 1080p with everything maxed out. I have the PS4 version and PC port looks at least a million times better than that aliased crap on PS4.

I honestly do not know what is causing people to crash but to comment on the graphics, they are much, much better on the PC version than the PS4. The textures of the buildings' interiors and the armor are amazing. I am seeing way more details than the PS4 by FAR. The enviornment is not that bad either. Did you try to set the image quality to ultra in the Nvidia control panel? Try tinkering around with the settings a bit.

as for 4K, this game seems to have a problem with 4K resolution. Just like Tekken 7. For some reason these 2 games cannot seem to get to 60 fps under 4k, no matter the setup.

But the real question is, did you played the game and finished it on the PS4 and like it enough so you bought the PC version as well for better graphics and another playthrough? Or were you in the position that you couldn't stand the graphics so much that you had to buy the PC version and ditch the PS4 version in the middle?
Because right now I am trying to choose if I should "throw away"that ps4 copy I bought and played only a handful of hours.

My PS4 save is at level 750 and 100 in attack focus so far. Played the crap out of it. I love the game just dislike the platform it is on. Yes, I am replaying the whole game again and trying to power through the difficulties to get to "Way of the Nioh" before I start "grinding" and forging all over again. The 60 FPS is just too good. So smooth!

I'm with you, i hate when my display is not in native, worse than the blurryest of AA. The game is very clear on the PC running at 1440p. I have a regular gtx1080 and it holds 60FPS 100%, never dips. I wish there was AA, but to be honest, without it, it doesn't look bad at all, I didn't even notice, but I've only played dark levels so far.(First 2) If they even add it, i'll enable it though, as long as it's not one of the super blurry methods. I use DS4 windows, and the PS4 controller works flawlessly on PC(just need a cable to connect it)

IDK what the DLC costs, but you get it with the PC version, which is 50 bucks for the whole shebang.

Sounds like you have a 4K monitor, either way, even if 1440P is all that will hold 60FPS, it's gonna look better than less than, or equal to 1080p with frame drops thrown in.
U dont need DS4 anymore btw, steam does it all now, i play at 1080p with FX AA and it looks fine, i tried 4K then set the resolution scale to medium but it dips below 60FPS and im not on a GSync monitor so i notice the dips, If u hav a 1080 or above then u could set it to 4K then set the rez scaler to medium.
TBH this game doesnt look THAT much better at high rez cuz of its kinda dated GFX, having alot of fun so far tho ;)

Scratch that comment about ease to maintain 60fps at 4k.
Checked a few gameplay performance test videos at 4k 60fps and man -
The game is so poorly Optimized on pc and hyper demanding!!

Some really powerful rigs, stronger than mine (I have an i5-3570k and 16gb ddr3), hardly maintain 60 with frequent drops to 50s, many stuttering and even 40s at some. Especially the tutorials level or any level with a lot of fire or lighting changes (not that it's really dynamic or very impressive to begin with!).
This guy here says in the comments that even with his insanely strong rig most games on 4k are 45-50ish
https://youtu.be/-sYEaj6yVo0
To be honest I haven't played many 4k games on my 4k tv yet on PC.

So, either make a lot of compromises on the graphics settings or reduce resolution to 1440p, it seems.
4K it's just super demanding nowdays - and on top of that many games are far less Optimized for PC and modern hardware - than the use to be in the past. Which makes things far worse than they should.
They are not making the best of stuff like the 1080ti and often perform inefficiently.

This all makes me second guess moving to PC. Maybe I should worry less and play the simple PS4 version?
Either way I think it's best I wait for Winter sale before making a move.

Edit: seems 1440p would have far less drops. Wonder how it would look like on a native 4K. Tried Hellblade at 1440p on a 4K TV and it was a bit too blurry, fuzzy and soft (not the end of the world). However on smaller, native 1440p gsync monitor it looked great. (Still played on the 4k version). Its all a matter of having the resolution match the native optimal resolution.
In other words: 1440p on 1440 displays looks better than 1440p on 4k and much sharper.

The video you linked is not accurate for the current build. One of the patches since launch (patch 2 I believe) massively improved performance for the high quality shadow setting. I was seeing videos of the launch build where a GTX 1080 (non Ti) would drop into the 50's at 1440p max settings. Having only played with the "patched shadows" build, I've yet to experience any drops below 60 with that setup (outside of the minor micro stuttering that occurs on PS4 and PC, seems to be an engine issue). Even if you have to lower 1 or 2 settings, your 1080 Ti will give you a much better looking game on your 4k TV than the PS4 Pro. The latter ranges from 1080p-720p depending on how the dynamic resolution scaler affects any given scene.

EDIT: If you end up getting the PC version, force 16x AF in your Nvidia control panel since it's not an option in the game itself. Just a heads up.

Thank you. What resolution are you playing on exactly, that you are not getting drops?
Just wanted to point out that I watched several videos of different PC's and all had unsmooth performances.

I think I might just stick with the PS4 Pro version on Action Mode for now. I am playing the game in intervals for a few days now with some online buddy in COOP and it's been fun enough to mostly forget the visuals.
Also the game takes huge amount of space on the drive which is another reason I might want to avoid it (having an SSD). Crashes sounds unpleasant to deal with. And I already have it running fine on the PS4 Pro.
I don't really want to deal with constantly changing Graphics and fighting with performance. Or tackling crashes and troubleshooting it and stuff.
If I didn't buy the PS4 version and especially if this was a better now Optimized port - there would be no question really- PC for sure.
I mean I like the game, but it's not a great looking game anyhow and I don't think I like it enough to buy another copy and over thing on getting it to work well all the time etc, throwing my other copy away.

Yeah I wish it was clearer and sharper without dynamic resolution on the Pro, but honestly it's slightly easier for me to set up, loading times are quick enough, its a fairly smooth experience there.
They should have patched it for locked 60fps at 1080p with some sharpening and AA + 1440p 30fps with smoother frame pacing. There really is no reason for the game to run below 1080 or 60fps there.
It's graphics are really dated and areas are rather confined and simplistic.

Maybe if it hits a big sale at Winter Sale or later I will give it a short within refund time.
But I am having a really good, frustration free, time on the Pro.

I like it just fine on PS4 Pro, but I'm using a 1080 display. I'll be waiting a few years (and another actual console generation) before even thinking about a 4k distplay. Upscaling sucks. It is somewhat odd why the game performs so poorly though, it's not THAT pretty of an engine at all. It's nice enough, but very basic compared to other stuff out there.

I'm playing at 1440p on a GTX 1080 (again, not a 1080 Ti). Other specs are 4790k @ 4.5GHz, 16GB DDR3 @ 2400MHz and game is installed on a 1TB SSD. I can't say if it'll run 100% locked at 4k60 on your card, but you could always use the custom resolution mod to run it at 1800p and still get a way better experience. I will say that I haven't a single crash in my 9 hours of play, but I can only speak for myself.

Personally, I'd double dip once it inevitably goes on sale again for the Holiday Sale, but that's just me. Enjoy it either way.

Rather off topic but thought I'd ask anyway: Anyone here still using GeForce Experience? I have stopped installing it for a while now to save performance and because it requires sign-in online.
What's it's current state? And would you recommend using it?
Thought about installing it to record some gameplay but not sure how heavy it would be.

Nah, I stopped installing it a while ago myself because it's more of a headache than anything in my experience.
