when do you unlock "tempering"

I have the Umbracite but I never got the messaage that tempering was unlocked (I cant use it in forging also) is there a unlock condition for it?

It's always unlocked, you have to press Y instead of X inside the reforge menu when you have the item highlighted.

Well it doesnt for me. it switches to "diving fragment" and others but never to the ubracite. I saw on a youtube video that you get a message sayaing "Tampering has now been unlocked" but I never got that message.. and I cant use it =/

IIRC, it relate to the Kagatsuchi's Magatama you give to Tome. Not sure tho.

It's before you get into the actual reforging,

Select reforging
Highlight the item then press Y instead A.

This will bring you to the tempering menu instead of the reforging one.
