Odachi blacksmithing tome
Hey I'm on the 2nd area but I can still only make the basic Odachi, I can't craft anything else, where can I find a tome that will let me make something better?

Just keep playing the game and completing the missions.

There's not very many odachi smithing texts. You'll get a couple good ones close to the end of the game but I'm willing to bet the best ones are in the dlc areas.

I think I got a few basic upgrades by spending enough gold to increase patronage level and picking the option to increase selection. It takes a while before more interesting odachis become available, though.
but, but, but I wants me big sword of everythingslaying! Pretty please? :D

So they will naturally come up as I porgress. I didn't miss it, it's not crazy-hidden. That's good enough for me.

Just kill revenants with purple odachis, or disassemble some purples for materials and use those to forge a purple odachi. With one or two good damage stats any purple will serve you well.

The silly thing about Nioh is the vast amount of sets and availability for katans, but the rest of the weapons have lesser or none sets and only starts appearing 3/4 of the game.

^^ thats good advice there.

try to kill revanants about 10 levels higher then you (you'll notice all the red sword icons as other players try for the same reason as you) then you cant complain about the gear there.

same goes for armor too, not just weapons.

gear that drops scales to the level of the mission you're playing otherwise.

Odachi and tonfas were added in dlc.

6 Odachis are unlocked through progress in the game eventually. All smithing texts are dropped in the dlc areas, i.e. only available after the main story.

Odachi was added after base game just like tonfa... the variety is lesser. Actually the choice of odachi won't matter that much unless you reach final chapter but still that 1 effect plays a small role in min-max. Need to forge or fight revenants if you really want a new one. Else a purple rarity will carry u thru the base game til u get divine rarity
well I had 2 higher grade odachis drop before. The purple I can craft doesn't cut it anymore, I need to rely on drops.

How do I get to the DLC areas? Do I have to beat the main game or do they arrive halfway through.

Yes you gotta beat the main game.

In order to get the best one you need to get your DUAL SWORD proficiency up to 500k and do the dojo mission for it's mystic arts and then beat the missions that unlocks until you unlock ganryu in the first DLC area. That fight drops the monohoshizao (aka the drying pole) which has high base stats and an innate maxed cca affix.

The other good odachi is the one from the kigetsu set which drops from the strong guy right before the sanada boss fight in DLC region 2. It's stats are slightly lower but not bad and its part of the kigetsu set which is really good at 3 pieces making it an ideal choice to combine with another set.

As you will notice, this is all in the DLC. Since odachis were not added until the DLC, theres almost none of them in the main game because no enemies use odachi in the main game.
That's pretty lame if you ask me. I know it was added later but they could have tweaked one or two side missions to give an odachi book. 'You can pick this weapon class, but you won't find any good ones in the main game'. Dafuq?

I mean, they put literally the single most badass medieval weapon in the game (the only sword that was used as a main battlefield weapon) and then they pull this blue balls move? Come on.

Yeah I agree but it's not like the basic odachis are bad or anything. The moveset is so good in mid stance. I'm experimenting more and more with the edge of it's range and finding some great oppurtunities to attack during bosses attacks by outranging them ever so slightly. Masamune is wind form especially I'm really finding places to weave these extra hits in and it feels so good to do so.

Of course 99% of the tough human enemies in the game use a spear which outranges and outspeeds odachi so it's not a useful thing against the likes of sanada or mysterious samurai (who are the only remaining difficult enemies for me). Basically what I'm trying to say is ♥♥♥♥ spears.
