As in not the new players who don't know the combat system and would benefit massively from ta-dah - Kato's bonuses!
Meh, don't think it makes a difference in the first couple of missions any way. Enemies in the first region aren't hard enough for Kato's strengths to really shine. You can beat pretty much all of them by just walking out of range and poking them a bit between combos. Living weapon breaks early boss fights whether you use Kato or any other spirit. By the time the game gets rough, you'll have all 3 any way. And if you're having trouble in early areas, chances are Kato wouldn't save you. It's a lack of experience with basic game mechanics at that point.
But when I saw stats they give I instantly switched to Daiba-Washi(now I use Itokuri) .. because luck.
I can always switch to required guardian spirit right before boss
Besides low levels of investment in most stats are still usefull.
