Tips for Onryoki?
I've gotten decently far in the PS4 version but this boss always gives me a ton of trouble. I'm using tonfas and odachi. The tonfas are worthless and the odachi uses too much ki to block his spin attack. I don't know why I have so much trouble with this one. I didn't have nearly as much trouble with any of the other bosses.

Don't block his spin, get out of the way of it. As long as you're not wearing insanely heavy armor early on you should be able to be quick enough to get away even with getting a few slashes before he does it.

Also Yokai are weak in their horns, same with Onryoki. You can get a full Ki break by hitting him square in the head where his horn is and get some big damage with living weapon.

Attack his horns
I used an axe in high stance, took me like a minute to destroy him.

I stayed close in and waited for him to do the double ball slam, hit once or twice then back up before his ball spin. In the second form you have to dodge his ball throws as he can oneshot you with them. Save up on living weapon before the fight, hit him until he reaches his final form and then finish him with living weapon. Took me a few tries but nothing tragic.

When he:
Double chain slam, dash behind and get 2-3 hits then run.
Single chain slam, dash behind and get 1 hit in and then run because he's going to spin.
Spins around, run in at the end of it and hit once then run out.

If he uses a single slam when he's far away you can run in and get one hit before running out but it's risky.

Rinse and repeat, just always keep max distance away from him because his spin range is huge. Second phase is pretty easy just stay close and dodge behind him and attack. GG
This seems impossible with the weaons I have. The odachi uses too much ki and doesn't do enough damage. Would it be viable to switch my main weapons at this point?

Never block his attacks, always try to use fast attacks if you can help. First phase is pretty abusable since he is slow'ish but can hit behind him. Second phase hopefully you should nuke him down with Living Weapon and some usables. With an Odachi / Katana I killed him.

Also, he is resistant to fire damage.

You should at least be able to get in one hit within each of those openings I mentioned. If you're really having trouble you can summon me and we'll knock it out

What stance are you using? High stancing everything will make you use a ton of Ki but mid and low stance shouldn't be using a lot.

Tonfa and Odachi doesn't have a versatile early game move until you unlock the 1st dojo, and even then is more of a trick weapon to use than a adaptable weapon to carry you through most fights.

I could use a low stance tonfa, or a low stance sword, and I'd kill a enemy twice as fast with a sword over a tonfa, since ki damage is so damned low as well.

Tonfa is suppose to focus on ki damage, but most of the moves are multi-hitting, and isn't very much 'ki damaging'... Especially when human enemies simply block the attack after the 1st hit, meaning you gotta grind and get a special perk on your tonfa to 'avoid deflection' when you attack blocking enemies.

Odachi are well... Massive sweeping weapons that should be treated like axes, 1-2 hits and retreat.

When Onryoki re-appears in higher missions, is he stronger or am I getting complacent ;P

Remember to use your Living Weapon!
Can't stress this enough.
I seen guys on co op go low on health about to beat the boss but never use it and get rekt by the boss
If your feeling that your weapon is useless use a sword or a spear.
Axe is to slow and dual wield is a rare spawn at the beginning.
Use your ninjutsu and onymo skills equip them they will make life easier.

Stay behind him and keep moving to the right, he will never hit you.

he gets more damage and health for sure and it gets annoying how many times he is copy pasted through the late game.

He just becomes a regular enemy later on, this concept is not new nor exclusive to Nioh.
