A connection error has occurred?

Attempting to coop via the TORII GATE and selecting Random Encounters without conditions, i.e. leaving it wide open for available coop. Are many of you running the PC version having this error occur regularly?

I have had successful connection once where I entered another player's game. Outside of that single connection seems this error frequently occurs and it only takes about 20 seconds or less to get the error. I'm just curious this is a common occurrence for everyone else at this time? Thx.

I did have this happen on PS4 as well but it was not common.

Restricted NAT. The game uses p2p hosting, so if the host has a firewall up, or their ports aren't forwarded, you'll see this error.

The correct answer is... the thing is bugged. At random when someone attemps to use an ochoko cup he won't be able to actually get any visitors at all until he redoes it. It's as simple as that. Sadly without enough players or a friend to let you know you're on "connection error" you might not know how long to wait before redoing it but as far as I can tell there's no loss in redoing it every 1 minute or so.

yeah , trying to connect to online players, still result in error msg,
wanst able to play online since i bought the game on 7.11, trying 2-3x per day looking for players online, never worked.

Since a week this error message appears again and again. What is team ninja doing ???? Nobody monitoring this bug ? It's very frustrating and they aren't capable to fix this annoying problem ?? Not a good recommendation for Nioh 2 ...

i just assumed that the people that still play dont use the tori gate very often, or play with friends.. The player count for this game is already pretty low. im on way of the nioh, and i always go to the tori gate to help other people, but it takes me a very long time to find someone.

My guess is this occurs because it's trying to match you over and over to the same person, and some networking issue is preventing the connection. Nioh isn't totally random in which person it connects you to, it prioritizes by some criteria (region / geography seems to be a big one, as password matching to someone on a different continent took vastly longer even begin to connect versus someone in the next state).

So if Player X is the top of whatever algorithm the game uses to find a match, and you can't connect, then if you immediately retry, there's a very high chance it'll try to match you to Player X again because whatever criteria it used to choose them the first time, it still uses to choose them a second time.

Best thing to do is wait a bit and try later. I did a lot of torii gate co-op and usually waiting a while and retrying helped.

Got same issue and figure that is packets problems. I used linksys router on ddwrt software linked to my ISP router. 2 routers in network might be a problem.

1. Check speedtest.net if connection is good go to step 2.
2. Check your router config (check packet loses, clear logs if any - free some memory, check p2p settings) also WiFi connection might be a problem - try link pc via utp cable
3. Set up port forward on router to your pc - game is based on steamworks p2p below port list:

4. Check your software firewall maybe its blockin certain ports (better create new rule to allow steamowrks ports pass)
