Which weapons are you personally most comfortable with?
I read online that the Odachi is really bad (and I kind agree based on the skills).. But it seems I just can't beat the first two bosses without the Odachi? Is simply because the Odachi better for early game or just me?

I don't know why but the moveset of Odachi just feels smooth and second nature to me. (No skills invested)

I tried using fast weapons like dual blades, sword, spear.. (OP weapons) and still couldn't beat the bosses. Now I think I might make Odachi my main weapon and maybe the Dual blades as secondary or Katana..

TL;DR: The second major boss was intense.. after countless tries with so called OP weapons, I falled back to Odachi and beat it.

I too use an odachi primarily, and i find it quite effective. Perhaps the ones that find other weapons good are the same that go with the spin2win moves and can't do anything else.

Until now, i find the odachi incredibly effective, i was attacked by a mob of 5 enemies, half an hour ago, and i was sure i was dead. The range and swings of the odachi allowed me to kill all of them.

So, in truth, i just think it comes down to a matter of personal preference and style.

Ive gone odachi as prime
and axe as second
so far Ive had no problems, odachi clear groups and my axe clears 1v1s

Not sure how the Odachi is really bad. Have been using it too.

Played through with katana on ps4 and honestly, Odachi feels just as good to me.

I use 1h katana and dub axe. 1h katana because it is what shows in the cutscenes, and dub axe because the character is also European.

On PS 4, first weapon I ever went through the game with was the Sword. No strengths, no weaknesses. I was a light armor dodgy-boy after DS 2 and 3 and it works *really* well.
Kusari was very powerful and heavy armor Axe build is hilarious to play as for different , intangible reasons.
Didn't try Spears or Dual swords yet - about to do a new dude on PC and do Dual swords.

I heard Odachi is kind of ♥♥♥♥ but does great Ki DMG.

Haven't tried the dual swords I chose yet, but I know I like Axes and made them my secondary. Used axes pretty much most of the time in the Tower opening section. Love the armored knight loot piniatas.heh

Been using dual swords for the last 100 hours. They are very good! The charge attack is one shot material, heavy stance spin attack is guaranteed demon horn smasher and the parry has a good reliable timing.

But I would like to switch to something else. Unfortunately, I don't farm for stuff, so passively getting good drops from just playing the game naturally for a new build around a new weapon will take 20 hours or more.

Odachi is very hard to learn. You really need to use it's range, know when to use all 3 stances, when to play defensive, when to apply pressure. Against big enemies it's also good to know how to hit the head too for free knockdowns.

Odachi isn't so much as bad as having a steep learning curve. Once you have some of its attacks and stanceswaps unlocked you can perform some really high-pressure combos against humans and get very deadly headstuns on big enemies with highstance. The weapon's biggest advantage is in its high degree of versatility and it's incredible range. It's also great for draining ki so learn how to punish stam-out. You also need very good ki pulsing, since it's incredibly stamina-intensive to use, especially with extended combos.

Another hot tip is to use dodge attacks from low when you need to play defensive. They eat a lot of stamina but they do good damage and are extremely quick to follow-up from dodge. It's really just about adapting to every situation. Sticking to a single stance is not going to work.

Opinion-wise I think it's actually quite a decent weapon but also has a very very high skill floor to use effectively. It took me until at least the 4th boss before I was really effective. The first 10 hours were very frustrating. Spacing and enemy knowledge are going to be your best friend as is knowing what passives are highly affective. Familiarity bonus scaling since the weapon already has high base damage and it's percentage-based, your main stance's attack damage and reduced ki, bonus ki damage, etc.
