Fix (workaround) for "Active Movie Window" crash at startup
* THE ISSUE *

My monitor is 1080p. I can't run the game in 1980x1080 because whenever I do that, it opens another window, titled "Active Movie Window", apparently to play its title movie, then that window crashes (Active Movie Window stopped working).

// UPDATE 2

It seems that, for a weird reason, it's fixed if you open Nvidia Control Panel and disable AntiAliasing or set it to Application Controlled. (Thanks, Velos.)

If it didn't work for you, my older solution is below.

* THE WORKAROUND *

The bug occurs when a game is occupies your whole screen. The workaround is:

- Open game settings and choose a resolution that is either larger or smaller than your monitor (for my 1080p monitor I chose 2048x1152)
- Choose Borderless or Windowed mode
- Start the game
- The cinematic doesn't crash and you'll reach the main menu
- Now you need to make the image fit to screen. You can do it either by switching the game to fullscreen in the main menu, or by using Borderless Gaming app.
- If you restart you computer, you may need to do the same thing again, because sometimes when you try to start the game while the image fits to screen it crashes again.

Same here too. Such a shame this port sucks so bad.
I had the same issue would like to know if there is a fix if someone figures something out. Currently just doing 1600x900 for now.
Keep trying?
Seriously. I saw at least one mag review that said they had to change it like 10x before it took the change and worked.
I have not had a chance to try the game yet myself.
Okay, update. It turns out it has nothing to do with the resolution of the game per se. It happens at any resolution as long as the game's window takes up the whole screen.

Case in point: I ran it in 1600x900 (which normally makes it work fine), but I used Borderless Gaming app to stretch it to full screen. The Active Movie Window bug came up just as before.

It is my understanding that the game runs a movie player as a separate process (?) and switches to it, and that switch results in a crash because it can't properly stretch that player window to full screen.

As an alternative I tried running it at a resolution above my monitor (in Borderless mode), so it took up more than the whole screen. It ran just fine.

Having this problem too, no active movie window pops up tho, just crash. So basically, run a resolution that's different from your monitor ( and in borderless ) and it should be fine?

Edit: Also, could skipping splash screen via launch options command be a viable solution?

Okay, workaround confirmed for me. Use larger resolution. Updated the original post.
It now seems to start and play the initial cutscene as well as other wmv cutscenes without problems.

I actually think it might've been fixed in the latest patch, it doesn't come up for me anymore.
However, I did all reasonable manipulations with codecs before using the workaround, so I'm not sure.

UPD:
Nope, not fixed yet.
I really don't think any actual codec problem would be fixable with screen size manipulations.

Hi gents. Found a fix, for me at least, to play at 1920x1080. Go into nvidia control panel and turn off antialiasing or set it to application controlled... After that it booted up like a charm.
