Star Drifter

About Star Drifter.
Disclaimer:
Star Drifter is a full screen action space shooter. You play with your keyboard. We have developed the game to feel like an old school arcade, hard, very hard, super punishing space shooter. The game is not easy and you will die a lot. Please take caution, if you're in the mood for something that will hold your hand or let you win, you're in the wrong place. Star Drifter is ideal for casual gamers that enjoy a real challenge. Prepare to be destroyed over and over again, lose your score and rage at the computer.

Thank you and good luck!
Dan and Martin.

Wait, so no gamepad support 'out of the box', so to speak?

Nope. We're happy for users to use any way to rebind controls for game pad support with third party software. But we've not included any. The game is meant to be played with a keyboard.

I must have missed where Xenon, Gradius, R-Type, etc., were best played on kb.

But you're the boss--just realize that you're going to sacrifice sales if you don't at least include barebones gamepad support in a game that purports to channel the oldies.

Yeah, I totally understand and appreciate that. We'll look into it.
Sidescroller without controller support. Smart move.

Why not? From game description: "We have developed the game to feel like an old school arcade, hard, very hard, super punishing space shooter."

Arcade space shooters used analog controls not a keyboard. Keyboards suck. How can it feel like such a game without at least D-pad support. This is otherwise a cool game. No wonder people aren't buying it and it is being sold for $0.49.

It is a top-down scroller shmup - same difference. It needs Analog/D-pad support. Its heresy to release such a game without it.

You missed it... I have a friend who has been a PC-only gamer for decades. He and I get into arguments over his claims that keyboards [WASD] is superior to a D-pad for scrollers - he says the movement is more agile and precise if you use WASD. Of course, he never ever plays scrollers. For a shump, you need at least D-pad or Analog.

Star Drifter is selling just fine, I didn't realise you had access to the sales data...

It's not worth arguing over matey, there's more to life.

Well, I respect your opinion, but I don't think it's a huge deal, if people don't want to play on their keyboard, they can buy a different game. We did include that SD is played with a keyboard on the store page, so I feel we've been fair and clear with Steam users about how the game plays.

Thanks for sharing your opinion :)
Dan.

Its got 34 reviews - thats all I need to know. That means like less than 1000 people have purchased the game. And it is on sale for %50 off $0.99.

Its really him who is doing the arguing. But that was a response to someone else.

It isn't important what the developer thinks, it is what the customers think that matters.

Well, maybe, but not everyone picks through the description to read whether there is controller support for a game that most likely would have it.

Overall, I think you guys made a pretty cool game, but lack of controller really prevents people from enjoying it.

Yeah, ditto - I cannot get it to run much faster than a blip every 5 seconds or so!@!
My system is Win 7, with decent RAm (4GB) and decent processor.
Other WAY more graphics processing demanding games seemed to work just fine, what gives?!?!?

Kind Regards.

Is there still no way to rebind keys?
