Unraveling Planet Alpha

• Is it planet Earth, Mars or a different planet? (Here someone will say, it is planet Alpha )
  
• Is the main character human, alien or machine?
  
• Are the attackers an alien invasion, natives from the planet defending themselves, or machines created by others like the main character?
  
• Are the corpses that look like you, others from your species, or is it actually your own corpse from a different timeline?
  
• Are you traveling between different timelines, or between different dimensions? The holomap seems to be displaying the same planet in different dimensions, so not sure.

Does anyone have a good theory of what is actually happening in the game?

One thing i noticed during the last chapter is that when you enter the gigant robot (the one shooting lasers at ya) after you've blown it up and you're trying to escape you can spot a person which probablty controlled the robot. So im assuming all robots were controlled by humans or whatever they/you are.

I agree with the time travelling / dimensions warping theory.
In fact i think the beginning of the game is also the end.

When we get to the final scene our character is injured and the planet is dead / dying, or at the beginning of the game it's the same scene (dead planet) and we're also injured.
This would explain why we can see bodies looking lie our character through the game.

When you finished the game, did you have all the relics / portal ?

Yes, I got everything and got the real ending.
Also, yes, the beginning is actually like the end.
I think the game starts far in the future, with the planet dead, and then you die. After that, you start far in the past when you were alive and healthy, and there is where all the action starts.

After reading all the Artbook, this is what I got:

• Is it planet Earth, Mars or a different planet?
  
• - It is an alien planet labeled as Planet Alpha.
  
  
• Is the main character human, alien or machine?
  
• - It looks like an alien been having a human shape from a different planet than Planet Alpha.
  
  
• Are the attackers an alien invasion, natives from the planet defending themselves, or machines created by others like the main character?
  
• - The Artbook refers to them as a Robot Invasion and they came from the space. However, as per what you can see, they are controlled by others like you.
  
  
• Are the corpses that look like you, others from your species, or is it actually your own corpse from a different timeline?
  
• - This part is not clear. It can be others like you, yourself from different timelines, or even the ones that were controlling the robots.
  
  
• Are you traveling between different timelines, or between different dimensions? The holomap seems to be displaying the same planet in different dimensions, so not sure.
  
• - As per the name of the final achievement "Timeline Erased", you are traveling between different timelines. However, as per the Artbook, when you enter to the portals to search for the artefacts, you are traveling between different dimensions. So, the artefacts are located in different dimensions, while you are also traveling in different timelines while you advance in the game.

So, for me, all this looks a bit like the Avatar movie.

• You are one of the first settlers in the alien planet, labeled as Planet Alpha.
  
• The planet used to be inhabited by the Alphans, which are no longer on the planet, and they created the structures that control day and night.
  
• The game starts with the bad ending when you have failed to collect all the artifacts after the planet is dead and then you die due to your injuries.
  
• The game continues with you alive in the past, inside a cave, and then exploring the beautiful planet, when suddenly the Robot Invasion takes place. The Robots seems to be machines controlled by others from your species, that came to the planet to take everything they want from it, especially to collect and control the biological specimens of the planet.
  
• For some reason, they also want to exterminate you, maybe because you are a potential witness of what they are doing to the planet, and they do not want you to interfere in their plans.
  
• You manage to collect the Alphans Artifacts, while also traveling in time and see how the Robot Invasion evolves and deteriorates the planet more and more.
  
• In the end, you manage to defeat The Big Robot, to find out it was actually been controlled by someone like you.
  
• Then, you discover and Ancient Alphan Device, and if you collected all their Artifacts, you manage to activate it to discover it is a Spacecraft, that takes you out of the destroyed planet.
  
• As per the final achievement, "Timeline Erased" I suppose you also manage to maybe go back in time to avoid the events to happen, maybe by making sure to never been a settler of the Planet Alpha in the first place.

Finally, I have found the following pages in the Artbook have incomplete text:

• Page 6: For this we opted to combine two styles; everything that is not alive like rocks, structures, robots have a low poly faced look, while everything alive like plants and animals ...
  
• Page 38: The first draft was done in just a couple of days and it ...

Yes, in all the screens in the first part, there is always someone watching you. Review them and you will see them. It is farther in the beginning, and closer at the end.

What's all this about runes and portals? I found a few places where the path diverged, and there were what I suppose must be the portals. After a while I stopped doing those, because the platforming wasn't my cup of tea. I never saw "runes" or maybe I did. What do they look like and how do you collect them? My ending was the loop.

There are 4 artifacts inside some portals. When you solve them and exit from there, you appear in the same place you entered to the portal. They are located closer to the places you find the obelisk with a hole on it for you to change time and find some kind of constellations.
- The first one is after finding the obelisk, continue to the right and then go down-left.
- Second one is the same thing, it is actually the same place, but in different time.
- The third one is when the obelisk is been destroyed, and you again need to go to the right, and then down-left.
- The final one is when you are deep in the dark, and there is a place where you can see an obelisk with some golden rings on it. You need to continue to the right until you reach to an orange background, and then once again down-left.

After seeing myself piloting the big bad robot and spying on myself at the befinning of the game, my take on this is that you are trying to kill yourself in the past for some reason, and the corpses of yourself all around point to some kind of terrible time loop problem. Unfortunately you cannot kill your past self because of the paradox this presents, but it is curious as to why you want yourself dead so badly...

Interesting theory.
As per the final achievement, "Timeline Erased" I suppose you also manage to maybe go back in time to avoid the events to happen. So maybe you were the one trying to kill yourself. No idea but that is a possible theory.

Yes Radical! You and your robot army were about to become all powerful, but you decided to stop yourself after becoming enlightened on the Alpha time world, but your future self wouldn't let you, so you battled it out on the strange Alphanian planet for control of time... Something like that but it is hard to say :)
