-Always build as many town halls as you can, and put them on endless peasant production (until all of your mines are fully upgraded and occupied at least)
-Always build as many barracks/stables/arty depots as possible, when producing units select all of them to dramatically increase the effective unit production speed
-Assign groups (ctrl+1-0) to your barracks, stables and arty depots, as well as your academy and market (I usually use: Barracks - 1, Stables - 2, Arty Depot - 3, Academy - 0 and Market - 9)
-Get many peasants on cutting stone and research the two stone upgrades as soon as possible, that will get you ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of stone which you can trade in at your market for gold
-When upgrading your mines, while gold mines have highest priority, also upgrade at least one iron and one coal mine at least once right at the beginning. That alone will give you a necessary boost in iron you need to upgrade your gold mines to higher levels later
-Always have 200-300 hussars at the ready in your base (also assign a hotkey to them). Use them as a quick-response team for raiding or counter-raiding
-Try to capture enemy peasants and get them to your base (Hussars are great for that... see above) to build there respective set of barracks and stables, as that will effectively double the number of military production buildings at your disposal (as each building gets increasingly more expensive the more you already built of the same type). This obviously doesn't work if the enemy as the same nation as you.
-Build a dense wall of towers around your city. Leave some openings where you position your troops, as having them between towers ♥♥♥♥♥ up their formation but will also make them easy to kill with mortars, as flying debris from the tower will kill them. If there are mountains and hills, try to find chokepoints the enemy has to cross to get to your city and completely wall these in with towers.
-Utilize artillery! (doesn't work that well against AI except multibarreled cannons...) Cannons are good against multibarreled cannons (they destroy them in one or two hits), and against close infantry. Multibarreled cannons completely nullify any infantry charge. Mortars are needed in any good siege to destroy enemy barracks and stables.
-On the offense, slowly advance with your troops, one or two formations at a time. Maintaining your battle formation will mean that your troops are always ready for battle. Don't just send your troops across half the map, the formation will break, and artillery will trail behind, a perfect target for enemy hussars.
