Explored areas of map

Is there a setting or way to keep the mini map active meaning lets say I have explored all the left edge of the map. On most games when the area is explored it remains visible on the mini map (Not enemy movement and such just the map itself so you know what areas have been explored.

But today when I was playing I noticed that the mini map only remains as shown providing there is a troop in that area of the map. If the troop goes elsewhere the mini map goes back to black which makes it hard to know what areas have and have not been explored yet.

So is there anyway to keep the mini map active to show the areas I have explored as I progress?

Yes, there is a way: through the academy, you can research for a balloon that will unlock the entire map. It is a XVIII century technology tho, unless if you're ukranian.

Playing Russian at the moment so will look for it.
