Can't start on NVIDIA Quadro FX 880M
Well, the game simply doesn't start. I get the first few logos and the loading animation, and then it crashes before coming to any menu.

Now, clearly there is a smoking gun, as right on startup I'm alerted that there are "known issues" with the installed driver ( NVIDIA Quadro FX 880M 337.88 ) and the suggestion to upgrade it to 378.92.

So far, so good/clear. However, looking around on the NVIDIA homepage, the 337.88 version is the LATEST which is available for the notebook win7 64bit system.
I can find a 378.97, but that is a win10 driver and does (naturally) not install on my system.

Am I simply screwed at that point? (In which case, how do I ask for a refund?) I would very much prefer being able to PLAY the game, because I've been really looking forward to it.

They cant be expected to test the game on all types of GPU's, so i guess noone in the beta had your card. They may beable to patch it, othewise a refund should be simple. Since you cant start the game, im assuming youve played less than 2hrs, so refunding is easy, go to account details, click on game and click on the refund button.

Can you try installing the latest driver that's available for your GPU? That message (that must have been added by NVIDIA!) may mean that it doesn't, but it's worth trying that anyway!

It looks like that's a mobility GPU. Ensure you force the Nvidia card is being used via the Nvidia Control Panel

Otherwise can you pst your system specs from Steam-Help-System Information

Thanks for the reply. As stated intially, the driver (337.88) is the highest version NVIDIA seems to offer for the Quadro FX 880M and win7 64bit.

I've tried to follow Satoru's hint and went into the NVIDIA control panel, selecting the settings for "Aven Colony". I do not get an option to choose between onBoard-Graphics and NVIDIA, but the settings seem to suggest that only NVIDIA is used. ( The system is a DELL PRECISION M4500 )

The crash message is from the Unreal Engine 4 Crash-Reporter (I've sent them the error-report.)

Thanks for the Hint with the Steam-help-System Information (didn't know that exists there). Here is the dump:

Thanks for the hint. This would be my LAST option though. I do feel that it is very much the game I would like to play. It's clear to me, that (small) dev teams can't test all hardware. I'm not angry at all, just sad. I hope I can get it to run. Otherwise "refund" it needs to be... (No new PC in sight)

Update: I tried updating the GPU driver differently. Not searching NVIDIAs homepage but using the win7/Device-Manger right-click on the NVIDIA device and "update driver" (let System search.) This, surprisingly, did find a slightly more updated (?) version.
Alas: It still crashes the same way. The updated info though is:

Aven Colony requires a DX11 compliant video card. This Quattro variant is only DX10 compliant. As such you cannot run the game. I dind't catch that until I saw the laptop variant which I know to be fairly old

Thanks, that solves it then. Not happy, but at least I don't need to fiddle with it anymore.

Glad that's settled. If it's OK, I'll move it to the "Solved Problems" forum.
