If so, you'll need to trade it for food as you won't be able to farm anything for a while. If gold for food trade isn't available yet, it will be.
however i recall getting gold from expeditions in some mission and i kept it sitting in storage for the entire mission.
yeah, so much for that.
What mission are you playing?
The trade hub thing has no option to export gold.
Devs, if someone is reading this thread, this seems like something to look into, especially if the player starts as far from farming spots as in the campaign (I haven't tried Azara in sandbox yet, so I don't know) as the player's only way to get food early is not there then.
Usefull trading is fun. Banished did it quite well.
I remember doing this very sort of thing for the Zeus/Poseidon and Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom games. Sometimes the map I was playing on didn't have resources I needed for my people, so I would trade for them from other cities, and I sold as many things as I could so my city would get an income. In some cases, my cities got so rich I didn't have to borrow money from other cities or cheat for it anymore.
Of course, there doesn't appear to be currency used in this game, just barter. But then again, this is a brand new world with a small economy, so that's probably why they haven't switched to abstract currency yet.
