It's not a bad game and has potential to be a good one but it feels more like a puzzle game than a builder. I don't get the feeling of accomplishment of building. I felt like I was just throwing structures together. It didn't give me a feeling of creation and that's not what I was looking for. If it continues to get developed then I'll reconsider.
That doesn't make it a bad game, it just messes up the whole review system for Steam.
I rarely look at steam reviews. Go and look for game play videos on YouTube and see what the game is actually like, I have four series of Aven Colony on there and I'm happy to help if people have questions.
People should really watch some gameplay before they go and buy games. Expecting this to be Anno or Cities is just silly, if they watched 10 minutes of someone play the game they would realize that.
I would have to say this is a casual city builder. It is not complex but that doesn't make it bad. I am really enjoying myself... HOWEVER I do think the price is asking a little much. Now that I have completed the first 4 campaign missions I would recommend the game but probably at closer to 40-50% off the current asking price.
and colony isn't giving them the issues & right productions numbers they should soon enough
which is a intergal part of the game experiance imho
probally needs notched up a bit. apperently
Ok so the price in UK is £24.99 just divide that by the amount of hours you have played or expect to play to give you an hourly rate. Mine equates to 36 pence per hour. I have to say that is great value for money. What other entertainment besides other games can you get for that price these days.
The more you play the better value it gets.
I enjoy it but there is a good amount that bugs me,
It have some cool stuff but also handle other stuff really bad (surge in food consume/water spikes outside of no winter after you hit 300+ because people jumps jobs like crazy sometimes and can't not manual set amount of workers I want, I don't need full house on the water pump 90% of the time.)
Story is blend to the point I stopped to even care anymore.
Misson design are ok, they more or less just produce X or have limited of Y and then poke this "artifact" to end misson. Most of them only have a small challange early on but after you just fix that it feels the same every misson. Nothing really dangerous or fun happens in them.
Not fan of lack of "danger" of 1 turret+ thunder spike + ignore air vents = more or less negate every problem they throw at you. I yet to build air scrubber except for very spefic misson. So there is not really that much challange and hard just means you need 2 turrets.
Booster effects are boring and is more or less able to just ignore, since the people seems happy anyway as long as they have Oxy,food and water with splash of entertainment.
Also milling stuff into more down the line food just seems like it just add another variaty? so far it don't seemt to do anything or be more effecient. Just to add to happiness varity, but what is the point of happiness when the only thing that I can bother to use it on is less food/water consumption and 10% production? You can cover this more or less with entertainment so that the manufactured "effects" are not worth it
Research is ok, but not very intreesting.
The locked trading options is also unintresting, most of time it is just naninte for the 2 luxary or nanite/iron/gold for food.
but the starship expidition might be the most boring part.
You get commendation instead of fun or intreesting stuff? Could I not find random crates? Random encounters with rare items like something that made X building better or that there be more aggresive AI? Anything?
This feelt like the option to add some spice to the more boring end game since after you cover their needs and basic defense that take about 10-15 min. you more or less set in stone. Instead it feels like they just added a gallon of water to the dish, since you must jump in and out of the menu every 30 sec on 8x.
I love the idea of the game but the manegmant part feels so half-baked compare to other colony games.
For me it seems it will be more like 1 euro per hour. To compare Anno 2070 was only like 10 euro for me and I got a couple 100 hours out of it. This game I am not sure whether I will even reach 50.
that does more for reward or boost variety
there is a policy that let ppl transfer off planet if too unhappy
the game is pretty accesible not sure with there being a SANDBOX modes and possiblilites
maybe add a area where to start at and a expedition ship or different models
at the beginning with limited space and which to bring into aven to colonize the loadout
more trade variation/give or take away or timing such
.
it could've get overwhelming kinda quick , think they doing ok that it isn't in that aspect
to start out in balance.
they'll probally add lot more , in what ways not sure buildings or animations etc.
like the suprises so far
so what to add to make more robust
in other city builders like tropico the late game means going nuts and build everything you ever wanted and build it big.
aven barely has any late game stuff to build or do. your colony peaks at around 400 people. that's enough to run everything you need. after that it's just about adding more housing and farms to keep everybody fed and occupied.
when playing tropico i very often avoided winning for a couple of hours since 'i wasn't done yet'. but with aven i claim victory instantly and move on since there is nothing left to do and very often there was nothing left to do for quite some time.
this game desperately needs more late game stuff, especially buildings.
It is okay for someone to not like something you like. It doesnt mean they arent playing the game right, nor that there is something wrong with them. It is bizarre to suggest that they arent playing the game right or whatever.
Just accept that people have views that are different from yours.
I played that game, pretty much to the end, and it was shallow as hell, almost no depth to it.
Cities Skylines gives me that good felling of accomplishment, when I manage to actually make a city that doesn't melt under it's own weight.
Aven doesn't give me anything like it, other than vague annoyance at the lack of feedback from the game, I randomly ran out of citizens, and that was just annoying.
Anno 2205 was the last one. Worst Anno ever, imo not even a Anno since it left everything people liked behind and went with something that felt like a mobile free to play game.
But anyway, you say it perfectly, it is shallow and lacks depth.
