Aven Colony .vs. Anno 2205
As a fan of the Anno series, in particular Anno 1404 & 2070, how would you compare this game to Anno 2205 (which was recognized as an unpopular departure from the previous games in the series)?

I really like Aven Colony, but I do prefer Anno 2205. I guess i'd call it an Anno 2205 Lite.

Well like anno if the devs dont wake up and start REALLY reading the feedbacks, this is it for this game. Games today need to be more complex in order to last ( if that´s what they intend). Apart from complexity it needs a map and campaign editor so people can bring the game out of this stagnant state and have a proper workshop.
If their intention for witholding tools is to sell more maps....... big mistake. Dlcs should bring new mechanics so ppl can play and change those in the workshop. Well is new so let´s see what´s down the pipeline.

We're reading it constantly.

That's not the intention at all. We're working on stuff for our first free update. DLC isn't even on the agenda right now.

Well it seems one commonality is that both games were negatively reviewed by people who had very specific expectations that weren't met. I avoided Anno 2205 for some time due to the negative Steam reviews and when I finally bought it I found I enjoyed it quite a bit. It was different than the previous games, but I wasn't expecting a direct continuation of 2070, and I enjoyed some of the new mechanics. I still have previous Anno games to go back to for more complexity.

I have enjoyed Aven Colony so far, but I think the significant difference from Anno 2205 is that there is very little focus on production chains. As any Anno fan knows, the heart of those games is all about optimizing your production chains and satisfying the very specific needs of your people to make the goods they want using those production chains.

Aven Colony seems to be more about balancing various aspects of your colony to avert disaster and keep your people generally happy so that they do not vote you out (similar to Tropico in that regard). You do produce goods like food for them, but it seems to be more about keeping a variety of food to keep them happy. However, I have just played an hour or two at this point so I certainly don't have the whole picture yet.

One positive commonality is that both Anno 2205 and Aven Colony are very direct with presenting the information you need with respect to levels of various resources. I appreciate having that information in front of me instead of having to piece everything together.

I preordered anno 2205 and played it all the way through. It felt lean compared to anno 2070, which is hard to do when it has 4 different maps and a completely lame and unwanted combat system.

I think you should have realized that your experience as 'unknown' developers (not to say that you guys haven't worked on great games) could not be compared to the early access experience of Soren Johnson, a designer on one of the most well known games in video game history. You needed a lot more feedback which you would have gotten had you gone EA. I had forbodings about the decision in the first place, and it looks like I was right. Eventually I'm sure this game will be great, but by that time you'll need to discount it to get anyone to buy it. I hope you post your insights to choosing not to use Early Access at some point.

A Game can be simple but a simple game should be cheap as well. If this were a 5 dollar or 10 dollar game Maybe. But not for what we paid.

Anno 2205 with less focus on production chains and more on the city/desaster management.
