As with nearly everything in Aven Colony, the answer to "can you do X?" is "in the long run, almost anything is possible." I can't promise specific features right now but I can say that we have very big plans for Aven Colony and we want to grow it as much as we possibly can, and what we end up adding to the game depends on how things evolve over time.
What I can tell you for sure that our focus is on growing and supporting Aven Colony through the launch and as far as we can see in the future, and we're not working on anything else in the studio besides Aven Colony.
That's good to know. Planetbase is a very similar game, but the devs are not interested in developing it any further.
I believe both games use the Unity game engine, so you may want to check out PB and see how they did their modding thing. I could forward my own files for that purpose if that would help. SPecifically, I would be looking for ways to manipulate the map and/or the ability to use out own height maps. I have many more ideas, if and when the time comes...
Just as an FYI, we don't use Unity; we use Unreal Engine 4. All of our maps are done using World Machine and the Unreal Landscape tool.
And good riddance you dont use unity !, less devs using that engine the better for everyone.
July cant come soon enough
But seriously, it has to be moddable. An unmoddable city-builder is like a cheeseburger without cheese! I'm not gonna say "no mods/no buy" but I will say that the city-builder games I've played that don't have mod support have little replayability, at least for me, therefore I tend to steer clear of the ones that don't offer it.
Planetbase seems to be abandoned although, i do hope Aven Colony does not get abandoned after release.
We have no plans to abandon it - in fact, we intend to take AC as far as it can go.
Generally, games get abandoned for one of two reasons -- developers either lose interest, or they can no longer afford to support it.
I can guarantee we have major plans for the future and aren't working on anything else, so no chance of us losing interest. So it all depends on what our resources allow us to do.
Another word that get used too much is "promise". If I had a dime for every time I heard somebody say a developer promised them something I could afford to buy the entire Valve corporation and give games away for free.
sorry but who are you? what challenges?
i know what you are referring to and thanks for that :-)
