Can somebody give me a comparison between these two pieces of software? Is one better than the other?

Get the free trial of SGB and try it yourself. And since I presume you already own RMMV, you can make that comparison yourself. Trial is often the best comparator of all.

Honestly, it really boils down to your desire for 3D. SGB may not be as feature filled as MV but you have to realize how many years RPG Maker has been around to have those options available. SGB will get there eventually. More and more is being added all the time!

I have owned every version of RPG Maker ever made but there were always limitations to a 2D environment that made me impossible to be fully satisfied with my projects.

I now have over 700 hours in SGB and have bought every 3D DLC both from steam and 3rd party vendors. I do not regret it at all! I started with the trial/demo version for a couple weeks and then upgraded to the full version without hesitation. SGB is growing and will continue to grow!

So check out the demo and make the choice for yourself :steamhappy:

I'm curious but do you have a game on SGB you could share? :steamhappy:

Nothing that I have made myself, but there are several games out there made with SGB. My personal game will be in development for quite some time. I have posted a couple screen shots, videos, tutorials and map block assets... but still a very long road ahead.

I suggest looking in the "Post Your Games" forum here to get started. There are other games besides these though you just have to look around for them. Occult RERaise on steam is one that I found, and there are a lot in Japanese including some that look amazing!

SGB also comes with a sample game with project file and there other sample project files around for you to examine. CompanionWulf (who answered you first) also just put up a small sample Halloween game recently as well.

Intresting I might look foward on getting SGB when it goes on winter or autnum sale. Do you know if there is scripting or programming? or anyhting like that?
SMILE is more like one of the earlier versions of RPG Maker in terms of features, a big thing that contributes towards this is you can't do any sort of coding in SMILE so you're a bit limited to what the engine itself can do (RPG Maker was like this until the modern iterations which is why I make the comparison). Now the base functions aren't bad, they do allow for some creative work-arounds to get things working and some new functions have slowly been added over time (like the advanced variable option, which did add a lot).

It does get updated once every few months with some new things, which is nice. And it does allow some thing RPG Maker can't do due to its 3D focus, but it isn't quite as versatile as RPG Maker yet. However, if you are okay with working within limitations there is stuff you can do by being a bit creative with it.

RPG Maker MV I think, because lack of options in SGB, but SGB is new, so we need to wait for the updates patiently. I like both!

One thing that Smile Game Builder has that RPG Maker lacks is games made in Smile Game Builder may be imported into Unity. In addtion to that using the first person perspective one may make a dungeon crawler game. A few more adaptions and there is an game such as the early Doom.

It boils down to the type of game you wish to create. If you are looking to make a 2D game than go with RPG Maker as it is designed for that. If you want a 3D game Smile Game builder is a great engine for making one.

I posted Mystery Demo under the 'Share Your Games' section. In July I brought this software and figured the best way to learn is to use it. I made that in 24 hours without knowing how anything worked. While not a complete showcase of what I was able to do in 24 hours without any knowledge.

Note: @Mike you necored from over a year ago.
