The cargo hacker is OP

And I love it. After grinding missions, balancing that stupid rep system for days, I read about the cargo hacker being very effective for making quick money. Well, it is. The tip said to go after weapons dealers and tech traders. I figured I'd do it differently. If you don't mind save cheesing, robbing capital ships blind is insanely effective. Just stole 8 Incendiary Bomb Launchers from a Phoenix. Don't think I ever got my hands on that weapon in TC - in 750 hrs of play.

Filled up the cargo hold on my Griffon Raider to the brim now with weapons from the Phoenix. Now that beats doing missions for 500k a pop, losing rep with 5 races in the process.

it's a way to make money and also acquire hard to come by weapons.

if you for example sided with argon and boron you wouldn't have access to pulsed beam emitter or phased shockwave generators.

pbe's are used by a lot of ships psg might be more rare but i'm sure you can find them on some yaki ships.

that being said there are many ways of making money even in TC and AP. just grind a race reputation to the max and scout for light bulb missions. there you can find return ship missions and on higher race reputations you could be asked to return a m7 or a m7m (which you ofc don't return).

selling these makes you a few millions very quickly. you can wait out the timer on the mission and deal with the police that spawns and then fully repair the ship to get the best selling price for it or you could just sell it to a shipyard while the mission is still active.

at max reputation you don't even take a reputation hit for failing the mission.

this is my way of making a quick buck and from there just do some complex building or train a group of marines which will find use on the m7m that i kept from one of these missions and use it to do some boarding.

After attempting to board a Xenon Q (and failing) several hundred times with ALL 5-star marines back in TC, I will never, ever conduct boarding again in X3.

And I have several mega complexes with factories in the hundreds in my TC and AP savegames; I got sick to death of that too. And Universal Traders is certainly a no go in this game since half the universe almost always hates you (also, Xenon Q's and their ridiculous OOS performance - must have lost 20 Springblossom UT's to Q's back when I played TC).

So unless I get a very nice ship return mission, this is it for me. I'm glad they added it; I would probably have given up otherwise. Also an excellent way to get weapons that I never got to try before.

Does the Cargo Hack take the weapons installed on the other ship? Like... could you disarm the ship completely?

No, only those in the cargo bay.
