Mobile Drilling System

Has the mobile drilling system (MBS) a "special" utility ?

Since I don't find any MBS in equipment docks (but I have no factory of MBS in my database, so it is logical), I use a phase repeater gun (with needs much more energy) to explode asteroids.

Can the MBS do something that lasers cannot do ?
Is there a way to find one ?

The Mobile Drilling system is the only laser that can break up the large asteroids. Other lasers wont work for though, although you can use missiles.

They should be buyable, there are factories around, and you should be able to buy the factory yourself as well

I have a similar issue. I outfitted a Demeter Miner I bought early in the game with a MDS and later when I went to add some more miner ships. I cannot find any MDS from any stations that don't hate me. There is only one factory listed and it's in Holy Vision Zeta and the Parinid are quite pissed at me.

I searched every sector I could find after acquiring the Hub just to see what was new and different and haven't found any others. I have nav sats in almost every sector so I know what to get where.

So do I have to steal some factory plans and build my own MDS factory? Seems a little extreme just to get 3 - 4 more.

I have finally found a Mobile Drilling System factory in Paranid Cadinal's Domain.
I gave to the factory the soja food needed to produce drilling lasers again and my problem was solved

Hopefully I had not to build my own factory.

For OOS
Is it useful to put 2 Mobile Drilling System on the front turret and 2 tractor beam on the rear turret of my Consus Armoured TS ?
Are MBS + Tractor beam on the front turret and the same selection on the rear turret a better idea ?

Or is it non sense, one and only MBS on the front, and one and only tractor beam on the rear will have the same effect, will be as fast/slow ?

Or ozias + several miners TS inside (first paranid demeter miner and later baldric terran) are by far the better choice ?
I guess this last option is the better because each TS wil have mineral scanning...

For minning OOS, I use Falcon Miners as they can haul ~405 XL cargo while using HEPT for rocks breaking. I handle the larger ones with Hornets as it feels kinda faster.

Falcon miners are OP in my opinion, as you can set the minerals drop-point for either TM or TL. Even a M1 (which can pass the ores to your TLs). Its fun to have 24 falcons and 6 Pelicans minning at the same time, dropping stuff to Mammoth who takes it back to PHQ
