stan.kay, It's my understanding that if you are runnig 64 hardware, the 64 bit version automatically installs.

Yes, whetever OS version you have (32-bit or 64-bit) the game will automatically detect and run the relevant version. Thanks.
The beta version of FM17 runs in 64 bit?

how can someone who doesn't know how to read, know how to write? how can you do one without the other?
And how can someone who has no brain pretends to be clever?? The question "Albert" is as if the beta isn't a 64 bit app and only the final version will be. Because my beta is installed in Program Files (x86)... Think (if you can) before be sarcastic...

If your OS is 64bit then Steam will download the 64bit version of the game. There would be zero point in giving 64bit users the 32 bit version of the game in case there are critical(e.g. crash) bugs in the 64bit version that haven't been weeded out yet. So of course the beta is 64 bit if your system is 64 bit.
Well since that's the case my question is why did install in Program Files (x86) then where Steam is installed... I read that it installs automatically the proper version (64 or 32). But I can't figure out why I have that... problem (?). If someone has the answer...

program files (x86) is where your 64 bit programs get installed to.
If you mean that Steam installs both 32 and 64 bit apps in Program Files (x86), I got my answer and thank your for your time.

that's not what I mean at all.
I too expected that FM2017 would download the 64-bit version because I have Windows 10 64-bit. Unfortunately it did not download FM2017 into the games folder. The solution was to: -

1. Hold down [Windows] and [R] -keys and type in steam://open/console

2. Then in the console, I typed in "download_depot 482730 482732"

3. The 64-bit FM2017 files then appeared in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\content\app_482730\depot_482732\*

4. I then created a desktop short cut from fm.exe and clicking on this opened up FM 2017 in 64-bit mode .

5. The speed is now considerably better.

6. It follows that the issue is "why did Steam not install the 64-bit version in the first place?"

7. It has been suggested elsewhere that fm.exe should be set to run in compatibility mode but now I am unable to validate that suggestion without uninstalling FM 2017 and trying again - too much hassle when I am now happy.

Many thanks for all the suggestions.

I'm surprised you did this and I'm not sure it would have made any difference. What was the version number previously compared to now? This can be seen in full via the game status screen.
Thank you for your response. My original game version was 17.0.1 and now it is 17.0.2.

I am puzzled by your comment "I'm not sure it would have made any diffrence" when I have stated already that previously the game was running as a 32-bit game but, after I performed the described actions, the game then ran in 64-bit and functioned considerably faster. It follows that my actions certainly made a difference in that they solved my reported problem of not being able to install the 64-bit version of Football Manager 2017. It follows that I must have misunderstood your intentions so would you please explain what you meant to achieve when you responded?

The system version is read by Steam and the game and would check - when I say version number I mean the longer version number which can be found via FM -> Game Status. You'll see 'Current Version'. Also check your 'Game Created on Version' and I can check it against our records to see whether it was 32 or 64 bit OS. Thanks.
