anyway, back to the issue at hand.. you'll find two folders :
C:\Users\[your username]\Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2017
and
C:\Users\[your username]\\AppData\Local\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2017
rename both of them (or delete .. but i wanted to keep some of the prefferences) to
C:\Users\[your username]\Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2017.old
and
C:\Users\[your username]\\AppData\Local\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2017.old
now start the game. it should (in my case it did) start normally only when BOTH the folders were NOT PRESENT. don't know why, but just deleting the contents inside did not help
once the game starts - it should start with the default everything - just accept the EULA and then exit the game without creating any manager. After that you can copy back from the old folders :
C:\Users\[your username]\\Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2017\editor data
if you have any custom leagues
C:\Users\[your username]\Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2017\views
for your saved views
C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Local\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2017\Preferences\version 3
to get your prefferences back.
beyond that i only recovered the matches folder - but it's not that critical.
whatever you do, do NOT recover the graphics folder if you have any sort of custom images, and do not ever ever try to empy the cache within the game. it crashes every single time for me every time i try to load the 3rd party face packs and i have to do ALL the above steps to fix it, at nothing else seems to do the trick.
----------------------------------------------------
external links of the mods i use below :
this is the face pack i've used [with no issues] until the last pach that currently breaks the game : http://www.fmscout.com/a-df11-facepacks-2016.html . do not use with the current version.
https://sortitoutsi.net/downloads/view/29634/fm17-megapack-10-leagues-by-claassen
this is the huge league pack i use (that seems to work fine with the game)
http://www.fmscout.com/a-fm17-real-names-license-fix.html
http://www.fmscout.com/a-fm17-unlock-germany-and-japan-national-teams.html
the above two guides also work fine with the current version of the game.
TLDR : you need to make sure BOTH AppData\Local\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2017\ and Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2017 do not exist (are renamed or deleted) when starting the game for it to bypass the green box glitch.
When the game crashes it can be for multiple reasons. At this stage of development, nearly all the 'code' based crashes have been found and fixed, so if a user is encountering problems now, it's most likely related to how the game is installed, how the users system is setup or a problem with something additional to the game.
We need to troubleshoot your issue in order to figure out what's going on. I would suggest creating a thread on our support forums here where someone can help - https://community.sigames.com/forum/513-crashes-and-technical-issues-on-pc/
