Does this game play like Skullgirls?
Oblivious coupon recepient here, I want to know if this game plays like Skullgirls. I've been trying to get into fighting games for several years now, and I'm wondering if this would be a good starting point, since Skullgirls didn't end up being a good experience for someone like me who isn't used to MvC3-style combo movies. In particular, I want to know the following things:

● Does this game have four-button input like KOF, or six-button input? I'll probably be trying to play this with my trusty "Logitech Indestructible" which is a PS2-style controller, so obviously I'd prefer four-button input, if that can be arranged.
● Do matches in this game tend to turn into a combo movie, or can you get out of combo chains? I saw something in the trailer about """balance""", how true is this claim?
● Is this a good PC port? Can you adjust visual settings in case this lags on your PC? I've heard of console ports before that don't let you (not a problem I've had with Skullgirls, but a problem with a lot of other console ports).

Also, where are the rest of the girls in this game from? I really enjoyed the Fate/Zero anime so I'd get a kick out of playing as Saber, and I know that Sonico is the Mario of Nitroplus (and I bet this carries over to the game as well, they gave her the most beginner-friendly mechanics, didn't they), but what about the others? Also, is anyone from Steins;Gate in this, since it's a Nitroplus game (and also since Steins;Gate is on Steam now)?

This game doesn't play like SG.
It has 5 buttons: A B C for normal attacks, D for movement gimmicks and E for strong attacks.
It's an anime fighter with long combos, not as long as skullgirls though, i guess. You also have option to burst out when you have meter avaiable.
PC port seem decent enough, there is nothing to adjust though, except for resolution, fullscreen/windowed and v-sync. It manage to load my GTX970 to 30% if it tells you anything.
Most of the characters are from nitroplus visual novels.

No it doesn't play like SG at all.

I wouldn't say it's very similar to skullgirls, but it might be closer to skullgirls than marvel 3. Blazblue is probably a closer comparison, IMO the most similar game to nitro+ is the asuka burning fest series if you've ever played those.
There are 5 buttons, but one of them is sort of a "System mechanics button", it does stuff like rolls/hops and is used to call assists.
You have a burst, but your burst can get sealed. Damage is pretty high, you generally need to dump all your resources but it's not uncommon since everything is reset between rounds. It's pretty comparable to blazblue, except bursts are more plentiful since you get 1 each round.
I haven't had any problems with the game lagging or anything obviously terrible with the port, haven't really tested the netcode but it's not rollbacks so it can only really be okay at best.
Saber, Heart, and Homura are guest characters from fate/arcana heart/sen ren. Other than that everyone is from some kind of nitro+ visual novel (technically sonico is from headphone advertisements I think, and ouka is from a music video or something).
Sonico is actually kind of a weird puppet character, she's not that hard to learn but I wouldn't say she's the most beginner friendly. Saber is pretty simple if that's what your looking for, and Al is similar to a shoto like ryu or ken. Most characters are pretty beginner friendly tbh. As for balance it's pretty much fine? Like, some characters are not great and some characters are really good, but the system mechanics are strong enough and the damage high enough that no one is ever really in a hopeless situation.

It's more like BlazBlue than SG.

I'd say PS2 style pad controller works just fine with this game. As Akayoru said, it's a 5 button fighter, with two of the buttons really situational. (D for dodging and better block and E really can't chain from the standard ABC, works as a guard crush if my memory serves correctly.)

What comes to Skull Girls, the only similiarity that I can think of is... it's a 2D fighter. While you have Assist characters, they aren't playable and are mainly used for extending combos or harassing.

"Balance". There's no such a thing as balance in fighting games. The game evolves with the players: someone excels with a character, everyone copies the techniques used at master levels, and nobody remembers the lower tier characters. A patch comes up, someone finds a new technique and that will be the new meta.

As for combos... It IS an anime-fighter, which is supposed to be flashy and suc, but It definately isn't like UMvC3 or Skullgirls (in certain conditions) like it would be one touch kills. In mos anime-fighters it takes about 3-5 jull combos to defeat your opponent. The combos I've managed to get are about 20 to 30 hit combos, with many moves being multi-hits. But do remember: the stronger the combo, the stricter the conditions for starting it gets.

Overall it seems like a good port. Akayoru mentioned the only PC settings you can adjust. I'm having some problems with it and am waiting for answers as I write this.

as for characters, they are MOSTLY from Nitro+ visual novels. Here's what I know/remember:

Playable Characters

Al Azif: Demonbane
Mora: Vampiridzhija Vjedogonia
Saber: Fate/Zero
Super Sonico: Nitro+ mascot
Saya: Saya no Uta (Song of Saya)
Ruili: Kikokugai
Aino Heart: Arcana Heart
Homura: Senran Kagura

Assist Characters

Akane Tsumemori: Psycho Pass

You can look the rest up searching from google or such. I don't really remember any other assist characters T_T

Hope this helps you deciding wether to buy the game or not. Personally this is on my top 5 fighting games I love.
