Remake no info about that
I just wish they'd go the extra step and add dynamic lighting like they did with the Shadow Man remaster.
Usually if you took maintaince to 4 durability was not an issue but still using ranged weapon still have not just ammo cost but the cost of the maintaince tools.
And if player is commited to ranged weapon player style then he is likely commiting his limited"exp"/cyber points to help that playstyle.
Also you could carry 2 or more weapons eg.first pistol break you switch to the second one but that is more inventory space.
And more importantly weapons could only break at 1 or some at 2 condition with % chance increasing as durability gets lower.
So if you maintain them once they around in condition 3.
(I maintain guns below 5.)
If they are broken you can use insta repair kits but that cost money to buy.
(I think basic pistol loses 1 durability per 10 shots, laser pistol per 20 shots)
Melee weapons could not break so you could use them but then you more likely to take health dmg or you could use PSI too but then you use psi resources.
You can complete the WHOLE game with melee+psi only then durability is not an issue you just need to commit your limited exp to that playstyle via the player choice.
Or use the PSI skill so weapons do not lose durability during that psi buff and combine it with repair so you do not need maintaince at all but this cost micro manegement and a Psi amp+psi points.
Laser weapon can use stronger fire modes they cost same durability as basic shots but are less energy efficient.
Again do I want to have more energy or more durablity. How this mechanics creates many choices.
Removing weapon degradation would make the game much much easier and make resource manegement less of an issue and it would severly limit player options.
All the above are examples how to deal with the mechanics.
Now that said maybe game could have a story mode/super easy mode and that could remove weapon durablity, decrease cost of everything and basically make it a shooter game.
Albeit SS2 is not a great shooting game.
STALKER: Call of Pripyat and, in particular, Receiver 2 have much more satisfying and tension-generating weapon degradation systems, where as the weapon's state of repair falls, you'll start to get different kinds of failures, most of which can be fixed in-place. Neglect your weapon for too long and maybe you get something you can't fix without more effort.
In general I don't really like any of the 'RPG' mechanics of SS2, though, They don't make much sense, none of them are satisfying, and they're just a source of artificial frustration. I guess a bit of leeway should be given considering SS2 was still fairly much in the genre's formative years, and it doesn't hugely detract from actual enjoyment of the game, but I wish it wasn't so... rigid and 'RPG'-ish.
The irony being, you still... need to shoot things.
Some things you need to shoot, but many things you can WRENCH.
Very true...
We've had crowbars, wrenches, some bit of pipe... What mundane tool or object will be the next sci-fi hero's go-to anti-zombie instrument?
It is a remaster using their Kex engine and with numerous upgrades. I'd rather use RTX Remix on the original though once I can.
How's it not a remaster considering the use of Kex which allows them to remaster things on the rendering side, along with the remade assets?
