- auto-vapourise all junk (hold 'v')
- auto-sort all items (hold or tap 't' with inventory open)
Everything else can be discovered by experimenting. Some functionality is found within the different pages of the MFD (for example you can leave notes for yourself on the map page).
The rules for the puzzles can be a little confusing at times, just keep in mind: none of them are impossible, check your assumptions, and be aware of subtle visual cues and clues. All of the information is in front of you.
The same goes for the mission objectives (if you don't know what to do, read or listen to the audio logs).
I already figured out the electronics grid to enable the elevator, so I understand what you mean about the puzzles. It was quite fun figuring that out.
