Now that you mention it, not much is known about what Nightdive is planning to do with the OST in this remake. In any case, I hope that modding will allow to use the original soundtrack.
Tim Ries composed the score for the elevator music
Josh Randall, Ramin Djawadi, and Eric Brosius composed the music for System Shock 2
Interesting video here from 4 years ago interviewing Greg LoPiccolo, and even a mention of the Remake at 22 minute mark:

I Know it was on the table for consideration but nothing confirmed.
I wonder if there might be some technical hurdles with LoPiccolos dynamic music and the way it interacted with the original engine when used with the remake?
Thanks for the share. :) I remember when some of those streamed. They were fun to watch and hear the original developers thoughts on their game and techniques they used to make everything work.
Slightly off topic, but they do talk about Thief in that interview. This really makes me hope that we will see a revival of this franchise as well. It does not deserve to end with that awful 2014 reboot.
Back to OP post, since the new System Shock by Nightdive is branded as a Remake, it should respect and follow the original work as much as possible, music included. As much as I love sci-fi ambient music in general, it would not feel right to completely ignore the iconic score from the original.
It is a pretty similar scenario to the RE 2 remake which had very different tracks but still was very true to the original in tone in my opinion. The System Shock remake is no different in that respect. And as far as level design and tone, for the most part, is far closer to the original than the RE 2 remake as far as I remember.
So, while the music has been changed overall the DNA seems to be intact in a lot of yet different at the same time. To be honest we have not heard much beyond a few early tracks. However, it is still far more ambient than most of the tracks in the original. With the exception of a few of the more ambient ones. Exec I think. Which happened to be my favourite of the original tracks. That and the intro theme.
It is much the same as System Shock 2 . There are some tracks I love and others that I dont. My personal preference is more ambient TBH. I dont really feel the music is fully what made the game great or iconic. It was good but the level design and game play is what really drew me to System Shock. I am one of those players that turns the music volume to a lower ambient hum while I play. But I get how others like the more pumping jams. For louder more techno industrial pumping music I like the OST from Tetsuo the iron man. Megatron and Drop Hammer are my favourite tracks. And even that would be a bit much if I were playing a game. But the tone fits the movie very well.
My personal take on it is they are honouring it fairly well and others don't feel they are. What is a guy to do? haha.
I still hope ,however, that the original is included as an alt mode and I would not be surprised if it is.

I hope so to. I feel that Underworld Ascendant was an attempt at bringing back a more stealthy game play (Tim Stellmach worked on that one) but it was over scoped and under budgeted. So, a lot had to be cut. It needed more funds and more time. So, you can see that it had promise but was never fully realised.
FIlcher does a decent job of capturing Thief like play.

The System Shock remake on the other hand will be a far more competent game I feel. I think when it is all said and done, despite people's misgivings, it will be fairly well received and people will be presently surprised. And if not, like I said, what can you do?

Regarding System Shock Remake, not quite sure what to expect given the multiple delays over the years and lack of clear communication on the progress (there's some correlation there
I hope it turns out to be good as I am sure all fans of SS do, but this might have been too big of a project to handle for Nightdive.
Agreed. Tsukamoto is a genius. :)
`but this might have been too big of a project to handle for Nightdive."
It is quite possible that it was in many ways. However, I can honestly tell you that I feel the game will be good. I don't think we will be disappointed.
For a game being made by roughly 13 people and some outsourced QA it will be a good experience. They really are pushing the boundaries of what a small team can accomplish. Especially for a game of this scope and complexity. We have already established I feel positive about the project. :D Only time will tell.
Just my opinion of course so take it worth a grain of salt. :)
I have been following Shadow of Doubt and think that one will be interesting as well.

I also think The Occupation was an interesting Stealth game

You also may want to check out PAMELA. Despite being rough in many ways combat wise the world building and architectural and level design was very well done. They developers were actually architects first and game designers second or so I read. :D

I enjoyed the game quite a bit.
